Due to political pressure from the American public, the Air Force has decided to allow two well-known reporters limited access to the most secretive base on the planet. But when one of the base’s “long-term visitors” exploits this unprecedented visit as a chance to liberate himself and his fellow alien captives, Area 51 turns from a secure government base to a horrifying destination of terror.

Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
I was unfortunate to turn this on while channel surfing and was hoping something was on the SciFi channel. Does the director or anybody on the set not have any Military background??? Air Force uniforms of that issue, are not authorized to have a white t-shirt to be worn. Director if you will please check out http://www.af.mil/shared/media/epubs/afi36-2903.pdf or the older AFI/AFR 35-10 for the next time you direct a movie portraying Air Force personnel. If they were wearing the Post 90's olive drab uniform it is acceptable but not in a camouflage uniform. Other than the distraction of the blinding white t-shirt the movie was OK.

I follow the After Dark series and I know that many people do complain about the entries. Some are good but most of them aren't. This is the most hated one in the new issue of After Dark and I must agree. From second one you know what you will get, SyFy, yes, not known for quality. Although that I must admit that the effects this time were rather good. But the flick fails completely in script. After the SyFy logo we see a journalist standing before the fences of Area 51. They really looked stupid but not only that, she's standing before a green key. If you watch closely you can see that even the key being made to cut out the green wasn't perfect at all. I have my picture before the gates of Area 51 and it isn't what is shown here. Nevertheless, back to the movie. It's okay to tell a story about Area 51 but when it becomes really ridiculous then you know that you are in deep sh*t. Come on, an alien talking English? And just look what they did with the story, first it's an attack by a baby alien, of course that you could see coming. The mother itself do looks like the aliens from Xtro. On the other hand they even ripped-off Alien. There's a shot were a soldier is facing the head of the alien, it's like the one of Ripley facing the alien, just the same, dripping teeth included. The acting couldn't convince me too, it was all a bit to cliché. John Shea was just standing there and almost didn't do anything except at the end. Bruce Boxleitner (remember Tron)wasn't convincing too. They even tried to make the flick believable by adding the so-called room were the Roswell alien was dissected. But the talking alien entered that room and it ruined it all. It just bored me a lot, why does this is included in the After Dark series is an enigma for me. If there wasn't a bit of gory shots I would recommend it to my 10 year old child. Let Area 51 just be Area 51.Gore 0,5/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2/5 Story 1/5 Comedy 0/5
While this movie does have many cheesy parts to it, it is entertaining and is not boring. Again, it has clichéd and silly parts, but its not as bad as some of these reviews. For instance here is a Pro and Con of the movie: Con: The aliens are rather goofy looking and are much scarier when they are not seen or even part of them are seen, because when their faces are shown, it is not scary and seems rather comical. Reminds me of the creatures in the movie CRITTERS.Pro: There is plenty of blood for Gore fans.It seems like a made for TV movie with an extra amount of Gore, but it is fast paced and there is suspense and the main characters shown do have a certain amount of depth to them, making you like them or hate them, at least you feel 'something' for them. Rachel Miner is an amazing actress and once again proves that she is good in anything, no matter how big the budget or how low the budget, she is a true gem to watch.Since I cant imagine any of you not ever knowing anything about Roswell or Area 51, this movie would probably make no sense if you don't, and it does a good job in quenching your appetite for the real unknown and restricted Area 51, showing you what "could be" found there, and the positives and negatives of harboring alien life forms there. There is one part that you will instantly think of the movie Aliens in when an alien comes face to face with military personnel however it no where near resembles the Alien in front of Sigourney Weaver and this should make you chuckle. From a makeup artistry standpoint the aliens are not horribly made, they just are not scary when they are shown, of course this is an opinion and not fact. There are a few different alien types in this movie, one that resembles an octopus, one that resembles the clichéd 1950's alien from the Roswell photo, an alien that resembles a man covered in veins, and again something from the movie Critters. The special effects makeup team probably did the best they could with their budget and went from there. The blood and gore (ripped body parts) and blood splatter was very realistic looking and good job to the design team.People LOVE to hate on movies and rip them apart. However, if you give this a chance and see it for what it is, a movie that entertains, then you will like it. Don't hate it based on someone else hating it. Form your own opinion. All in all, this movie is entertaining and a fun watch. It cannot be taken seriously, like you could take Aliens or War of the Worlds seriously, it is out of that league, price range-budget, its a completely different movie, but it is what it is and it deserves a chance, while it may not be the best thing you've ever seen it certainly wont be the worst movie you have ever seen either and if you are a fan of Gore, this does have a lot of that.
