Too much of everything
One of my all time favorites.
Absolutely the worst movie.
Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
In the 22nd century, a scientist attempts to right the wrong his ancestor created: the puzzle box that opens the gates of Hell and unleashes Pinhead and his Cenobite legions. Hellraiser: Bloodline is the Jason X of the Hellraiser Movies it's dumb, loud and quite confusing as a whole plus once again the acting and dialogue were far from being good, the storyline easy to forget and the whole movie is just a waste of time plus way too many stories taking place threw different times that did not add up anything new to the messy series. (0/10)
Oh man... Hellraiser, where to even begin with you. Alright, let's start from the beginning of the Hellraiser story - first two movies were absolute perfection for the horror genre, it had all the elements a horror should have and the cast was just amazing. Then comes' the third part which did some changes to the Pinhead I accepted and the movie was just little below the previous ones; however that should have been the end of Hellraiser movies. Then came the Hellraiser: Bloodline, the last warning that the title needs to die while it still held it's glory. Let's make it clear, the movie does have its amazing moments, e.g when referencing to the past events - but they aren't enough in the bigger picture to make the movie stand up to its previous sequels.
A bad Alien rip off, that is constantly having flashbacks to a different, much better movie. This movie reeks of studio interference. Only a small part of the movie is set forcibly on a space station, while the rest either takes place in the past or the present. The parts of the movie where it flashes back to the creation of the puzzle box, are arguably the best parts of the movie. But the movie suffers from having too much Pinhead forced into it, when he wasn't even needed for the plot. The movie already has a villain, and would have worked much better if they focused on her instead. But unfortunately we end up with a plot where the motives of the villains are now a complete contradicting mess. Previously established lore is completely contradicted, and they save the big transformation of the lead villain till waaaaaay too late in the movie.Another problem with the movie, is that they now start making quite literal connections to a pseudo Christian hell. Previous movies always kept it rather vague, and the world that the puzzle box connects to was just another dimension, rather than actually being the hell from the bible. Then again, writer Clive Barker also commits this sin in his sequel Scarlet Gospels, so who cares any more at this point? Then they end the movie by basically ripping off the ending to Aliens, and cue credits. What a waste of potential.
Arrested on a space station, a man recounts his family's multi-generation struggle against Pinhead and the Cenobites after they had inadvertently released them and tries to stop him from continuing his reign of terror. This is an unfairly maligned offering that has some good points about it. One of the finer points about this one is the actuality of this one tying up the series-long thread of where exactly the box that summons them actually came from. Finally getting that sorted out while also showcasing the connection to their dimension and ours through the rather chilling summoning ceremony on display which is quite fun and finally solves that burning question in the series about its origins. Also on display is the rather impressive sequence showing the creation of a double-headed Cenobite in grand fashion, a lengthy and bloody sequence that truly revels in the horror of the intent behind this sequence. That also brings about the impressive special effects and the blood and gore, which are rather impressive since there's not a lot of screen-time devoted to them so instead it really makes the most of such scenes by really going all-out in here. That does bring up one of the few flaws in here, with this one coming across as way too overfilled with the family drama to make better use of the Cenobites and their actions. There's not a whole lot of time here with the creatures due to the films' incessantly annoying habit of switching through history to keep the story going. There's not much about this one that doesn't make sense because of its needless switching back-and-forth in these time periods as this just becomes endlessly convoluted and overdrawn which doesn't have to be that way as the story could've been told in a much simpler fashion. Otherwise, this one wasn't all together that bad.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Nudity and a brief sex scene.
