Wonderful Movie
To me, this movie is perfection.
the audience applauded
All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Let's not kid ourselves, this movie is plain awful. I watched it first, then the 1st one just recently. While the first Delta Force movie takes a curve to emotionally powerful scenes (like the selection of Jews on the plane or the beating to death of the American Navy diver) before blending into your so-expected 'American soldiers kick the Hell out of terrorists' routine this one fails to make the viewer care for its blunt manipulation. Hell, even Bloodsport managed to make me root for Van Damme when his best friend got ripped into two to take down the bad guy, but not Delta Force, because a) it was trying too hard to move the plot along without having a half-decent storyline b) the production value was so low and the acting was so bad for the most part that it was just begging for a downing review. Then again, Aaron Norris did direct this flick, his brother must have believed in Family Values above all else, right? Good for you Chuck, for believing in family. Too bad the Norris family failed to convince anybody else that they had a decent action package formed from the first movies' production team. And I did miss Silvestri's memorable themes above all else! Don't get me wrong, this movie is just rightfully in place as your Sunday afternoon mind killer on TV, but is a completely letdown as a Delta Force sequel.
This movie has very little in common with the first movie, the only real connection between the two is Chuck Norris is in both of them. That and the movie does involve the Delta Force once again. It is also a very unmemorable movie as there are very few scenes in this one that I can recall. While I remember the older movie Delta Force almost entirely and I did not exactly watch that one a whole lot more. One of the few scenes that I even remember is the scene involving the Delta Force doing a sky jump with the drug lord and the fact this film had a bit of a similar plot to the James Bond film "License to Kill", however that film is superior to this one as I can remember a lot about that one too. I do not remember this one being particularly horrible or anything, I just remember it not being as good as the original and that I got a bit bored during this film, another thing that did not occur during the first film. In the end I think it is just one of those sequels that uses the success of the first film to try and market an almost unrelated film. Like this one was supposed to have Chuck in some sort of drug task force, but they thought they could get some more bucks by making it a sequel to the Delta Force movie.
My Take: Ridiculous and blood-thirsty. It's bloodily bad. Even if it was pure camp material, the original DELTA FORCE with Chuck Norris, Lee Marvin and a supporting all-star cast didn't take itself too seriously as it might have. The movie is pure B-movie, and it rarely took itself seriously. Same cannot be said about its sequel DELTA FORCE 2 in 1990 (also known as the COLUMBIAN CONNECTION). What the first film does with so much fun with itself was taken to darker and bloodier heights in this solid but joyless and too bloody sequel. Some stunt work (especially the skydiving scene and helicopters) are pretty good, but the overall film is too bloody serious to even be fun, hence it's often tedious.Chuck Norris looks bored replaying his role in the first film (Col. McCoy) for vengeance when his pal's wife was killed by a merciless drug dealer named Ramon Cotta (played with surprising menace by THE UNTOUCHABLES' Billy Drago), who has been freed numerous times after being captured. Although this villain is pretty mean as it should have, he's too bloody serious and cold-hearted, you'll hate him rather than like him for being mean. The rest of the film is as well, there's no fun to have here.If the film could have taken itself less serious, like the tone of its predecessor, it could have had more fun with its stunts and all. There are some neat stunts sequences as said, but like I said, it's not much fun. The seriousness could have been turned down and replaced with a lighter one, it could have warrant a passable rating (and perhaps, still keep its R rating). Production values aren't very high and some of the dubbing is weak, and the screenplay even given to the English-speaking actors aren't that good. Some fine helicopters but that's just about what this cheap "say no to drugs" B-movie from the Cannon Group Inc.Rating: * out of 5.
Maybe you people have gotten used to the real deals out there, the movies that were worthy enough to win academy awards. Tell me, is that right? No. You need to gain a broad range of a lot of middle class and lower class films. This one was made on a low budget but I think Chuck Norris more than equals it out. Here we have an interesting storyline and many high fighting spots, courtesy of course from the "Lethal Weapon" Chuck Norris. You can't treat this film the same way as you would treat the Godfather. Both of them are on different levels and I'm not saying one is higher than the other but you really need to look at Delta Force 2 differently. It wasn't out to win an Academy Award, so don't treat it in the manor that it was. It deserves just as high a rating as an Academy-award winning film. You would be cheating out the people who want to see this film and the director and all the people who put their time, effort and money into making Delta Force 2. Look at this film differently and chances are you'll like it because you're putting it on a different level. Rating movies takes care and a broad spectrum of rating systems. Before I go, Chuck Norris rules!
