Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
"Decoding Annie Parker" is a low-budget movie based on the stories of two remarkable women: Annie Parker, a woman that fought her three cancers with courage; and the geneticist Mary Claire King, who believed breast cancer would have a hereditary basis and researched cancer for decades with her team. The intentions are great; Samantha Morton has top-notch performance, but the screenplay is tiresome and vague. My vote is six.Title (Brazil): "Unidas pela Vida" ("United by Life")
Love, science, sex, infidelity, disease and comedy, the wild, mostly true story of the irrepressible Annie Parker and the almost discovery of a cure for cancer. Decoding Annie Parker is a great example of how you can make a film about such a terrible disease and yet make it so powerful and moving at the same time because when drama hits it hits you hard but my only 2 complains about the film were that the comedy was a bit too much at times but then again they didn't want the movie to be dark, unfunny and moody so i guess that kinda makes sense and 2nd after a while we never see her son again for some reason and that was odd. Now as far as performances go i think everyone were good Aaron Paul, Helent Hunt, Maggie Grace and more but the stand out performance and the one who stole the show was Samantha Morton she was amazing and i'm gonna give this film a 9/10.
I thought this was a a great movie. I laughed and I cried. It is an emotional movie that shows you one women's journey with hereditary breast cancer and how they found the genetic mutation that causes some strains of breast cancer. It really touched me personally as breast cancer has touched my family. I have watched my sister battle breast cancer not once but twice. No one wants to watch a movie about cancer, I get it. But there was something so real and genuine about Annie parker. She is a 3 time survivor! I would love the opportunity to meet her one day. She's gone through so much yet she smiles and lives her life to the fullest. Everyone can benefit from seeing this movie. Watch it with your mom or sister or best friend. And learn your family medical history and do monthly breast exams. It's so important.
Decoding Annie Parker will make you laugh, move you to tears, inspire, excite, challenge and change you. Most of all this movie helps every one of us appreciate the value of each day and power of living each day to its fullest. The movie tells the remarkable story of two women's perseverance and determination to follow their hearts and their hunches, leading eventually to one of the breakthrough medical discoveries of of our generation. Samantha Morton and Helen Hunt are terrific...Morton is Oscar worthy for her portrayal of Annie Parker. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew for producing one of the most impactful, enjoyable, joyful and moving movies in decades.
