I love this movie so much
Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
I haven't seen the original movie but this remake is creepy as well as entertaining. The story about the pretty and disturbed man in a coma is well elaborated and becomes creepier the longer you watch. The acting was convincing. This is not a low budget flick. It's not a blockbuster either but pretty decent and budget well spent I would say. There are worse movies out there. It's pretty good and fits the genre. Bonus points for decent choice of actors, attractive Patrick and the beautiful mansion. The shots showing the building from outside are pretty enough to make a good postcard. Don't judge a book by its cover as disturbing things are going on behind these walls. I don't see why this movie ranks so low here. It deserves eight and that's what it got from my side. The only reason for not going higher is that i keep higher ratings for outstanding or my favourites. "Patrick" was quite good.
When a young nurse begins work at an isolated psychiatric ward, she quickly becomes fascinated with Patrick, a brain dead patient who is the subject of a mad scientist's cruel and unusual experiments. What starts as an innocent fascination quickly takes a sinister turn as Patrick begins to use his psychic powers to manipulate her every move, and send her life into a terrifying spiral out of control.Dumb out dated plot. It's filmed well enough but the concept is a 70s concept and just so dumb today. The film should never have been re-made.As I've said, the film is made well. But it's such a stoopid concept today.
The Roget Clinic houses comatose patients who show little sign of possible recovery. The main effort of the clinic is to find a way to wake these patients up and bring them back into the world. In the opening sequence, a young nurse follows her ears around the place, takes a few pictures, and is killed for it. This is followed up by the hiring of the replacement, Kathy Jacquard, the protagonist.Soon enough, she's involved with the research aspect. Dr. Roget has her assist while he tries to resuscitate some neural pathways in Patrick. As time goes by, Patrick communicates, but with only Kathy. Doctor Roget exposes more of his work to her. Patrick keeps interrupting Kathy's relationship with Brian, then with Damon.Patrick eventually starts typing telekinetically, and lets Kathy know what he's up to, somewhat. Kathy tries to get Roget to stop torturing Patrick, but Doctor Roget will have none of that. Will someone put a stop to the madness before Patrick gets his complete revenge? -----Scores-----Cinematography: 9/10 Well done, with a component of noir techniques.Sound: 8/10 Rather good: often added to the suspense and sense of danger.Acting: 8/10 Charles Dance, Rachel Griffiths, Sharni Vinson, and Martin Crewes were all rather fine.Screenplay: 8/10 Better than I expected on exposition of motivations. This was central to the resolution of the film's plot drivers.
I don't know why so many filmmakers fail to grasp the concept that sometimes less is more. This remake of "Patrick" is a good example. The whole movie has an amateurish look, simply due to the use of a color filter to give it a 'dark', 'greyish' atmosphere. It just looked ridiculously fake. As did the rain filter, the CGI lift shaft shot, the car headlights and so on.Editing was terrible too. As a matter of fact, everything about this movie was bad, the exception being Pino Donaggio's score (which was not great either, but at least acceptable). As for the cast, Charles Dance does what he can, but the poorly written screenplay does not help things much. And don't even get me started on the final jump 'scares'...
