I like the storyline of this show,it attract me so much
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
We chose to watch this show mainly because of the location and it didn't disappoint. It was beautiful and the townsfolk were hilarious. We had several laugh-out-loud moments. And whoever decorated the bedroom (you'll know what I mean) deserves an award. So spot on.It was also refreshing to have a movie filled with believable people, rather than the clowns most comedies have these days. And the creators were kind enough to keep the language mostly clean, which was GREATLY appreciated. And they were able to be raunchy w/o being too "ew", which is clever and appreciated also. ") These attributes make the movie watchable to a wider range of people.Loved seeing Gordon Pinsent. We wish one selfish dipwad had been given a bit of a comeuppance. That would have been satisfying. Otherwise, good result. We felt like we were watching a mix of Waking Ned Divine and Northern Exposure. Very fun.
I came upon this movie, the Grand Seduction by pure accident, as I have not intended to see this movie. But I am glad I have gotten a chance, because it's a small Canadian film that is quite endearing and it's really funny. I care for the characters and their plight and the sense of humor is a sweet one, luckily nothing too vulgar or obnoxious. This movie has that small-town feel that I love seeing from time to time in the movies. This film is about a dying Canadian town that lives on the waterfront. In order to keep the town alive and bring new jobs into this fishing village, acting mayor Murray must pull out all stops to bring in a doctor. When Dr. Lewis comes to town, Murray and all the residents try to keep him permanently in town....and that includes some big lies. The acting is very good. I liked Brendan Gleeson as Murray and he shows a comedic side to himself and it's nice to see him let loose as well as play the fiddle. After a commercially disastrous 2012, it's nice to see Taylor Kitsch back on the big screen with The Lone Survivor and now this film. He does a solid job and is also quite funny. Overall, The Grand Seduction is the little film that could. I came upon it by accident, and I am glad I did. It's a funny, touching film about people trying to save their hometowns. I just loved how this hockey- loving nation tried to play cricket to impress the doctor. I really just couldn't stop laughing. One of the many fine moments this movie featured. My Grade: A
A bad rip-off of Jean-François Pouliot's "La Grande Séduction" ("Seducing Doctor Lewis" in English) that's as fun to watch as watching paint dry! The script is almost word-for-word (English for French)the same as the Québécois film about trying to convince a doctor to work in their small fishing village in order for it to have a factory where the townspeople would all have jobs. The difference is that the people are supposed to be from Tickle Cove, Newfoundland & Labrador, instead of Ste-Marie-La-Mauderne, Québec and they have less than one third the charm as the people in the original film. Well, this piece of garbage is an insult to Québec!!! Watch the 2003 original and not this crap! C'est vraiment de la crotte!!!
I got this movie solely because it had Taylor Kitsch in it. And if not for that anticipation, I would have turned this one off after a half hour. In that half hour, it was slow and predictable and was only watchable for it's beautiful scenery. Once Taylor arrived, it became very entertaining, while still predictable. The pace picked up a touch and all the actors suddenly became more entertaining. I suppose the director was trying to "set the scene" in the beginning and some more artistic viewers may appreciate that but I just found it boring. But the rest of the movie was funny, touching and satisfying so stay patient especially if you like Taylor.
