How sad is this?
Best movie ever!
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
An excellent, if flawed directorial debut. Takes from Scorcese, Paul Thomas Anderson and Tarantino to name but three. But it also brings a freshness that I have not seen in a good few years. Well worth a look 7.5 out of 10
I planned on putting this flick on in the background, but was pleasantly surprised when it started.Elijah Bynum, did a fantastic job with this film, I am eager to follow him in the future. Per usual, Timothy Chalamet delivered a great performance and Alex Roe did a great job playing the ultra S E X Y bad boy. I enjoyed the narration on the film, it reminded me of the Sandlot in the way the story progressed along with the narrations. The soundtrack was fantastic, and as an avid Goodfellas fan, I saw many appropriate and exciting parallels with this film. All in all, it's a great watch and one of those movies you feel accomplished after watching. It was absolutely not a waste of time.
Ok... so the story is simple, like some we could see back in the 80's on Beta or VHS, but the adaptation is great. I've seen it a couple of times and the scenes are very well arranged. The way director and filming crew get our attention is great, the changes in frames and camera position and framing is excellent in my opinion. The soundtrack is ... well ... perfect fit (Spongebob, Tiny Tim? lol). Guys, are you sure you haven bee doing drugs too? Don't do drugs OK, Spongebod is bad already... but ok, fits the purpose. As for the actors... the kids are great I see talent there, and I particular like Thomas Jane character and performance (notice you on Expanse). Even though William Fichtner has a small appearance, it gives some serious acting in a junior cast. In general... I give an 8. 9 is for students that don't exist and 10 is for God.
Hot Summer Nights is a very enjoyable film and an excellent directional debut for director Elijah Bynum. Timothée Chalamet did a superb job playing an awkward teenager who gets caught up in the wrong crowd. His mannerisms and subtle acting really show how talented he is. Supporting actors, including Maika Monroe and Alex Roe do an awesome job playing there parts and creating believable characters. The cinematography in this movie is flashy and eye-catching. The soundtrack is spectacular. The overall feel and aesthetic of this movie is very pleasing. The story is fairly simple, but the top-notch acting, cinematography, soundtrack, and overall talent in this film keep it from being forgettable. I highly recommend this film to anybody looking for a thrilling, entertaining, and fun ride.
