To me, this movie is perfection.
I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast
This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
The concept for this alien invasion movie didn't seem bad to me at all, and knowing its budget and the fact that it is a TV-movie from the Syfy channel, I didn't expect to be complaining about the cheap looks and feel of this movie. Now, I haven't seen that much of their stuff, but I think I can safely say most of the effects in this movie look terrible, and story-wise there are a lot of, to put it friendly, "connections" with famous alien invasion movie, "Independence Day".For example, there is a guy who used to be a pilot and who is now a drunk, who tells stories all the time about being assaulted by aliens. Remember him? Then there is the way the alien spaceships hover above large cities or other locations. The spaceships themselves, besides looking terribly fake, look stolen from "Independence Day". Flying into the aliens' central ship to destroy them also was too much of a resemblance. The world seems very empty in this movie and a lot of the times when there are people around, they certainly don't act like aliens are coming. Now, spoiler alert, but the aliens also do inexplicable stuff I just have to mention. Why would the aliens, besides going to big cities in the world, go to the protagonist's house, and then blow it up? And how would no one in the world notice? Yes, the guy had this little item they wanted, but still...the whole scene was completely ridiculous. The cast has little to work with and although not completely bad, hence doesn't deliver any really interesting stuff. A very bland science fiction movie.
I guess we expect SciFi (Sorry – I CANNOT call it "SyFy") channel's offerings to be low budget, which means unimpressive SFX/CGI, and this is no exception. They have to work to a budget, so we have to accept that the effects won't look like Star Wars or Jurassic Park. However, what I can't forgive is acting that ranges from indifferent (Greg Evigan and Denise Crosby) to low grade prep school drama group amateur (pretty much the rest of the cast). Worse, the script was a joke. I think it was the late great Sam Goldwyn who once said of a script he was presented with "I could eat alphabetti spaghetti and puke a better script than this". Had he said this of this script, he would have been being kind to them. That just about sums up this film!
Invasion Roswell (2013) ** (out of 4) Mildly entertaining low-budget film from SyFy. The plot itself is pretty simple. An elite group of alien fighters are forced into retirement because the jerk higher up feels there won't be an alien invasion. A short time after that the aliens do attack. The elderly alien fighters decide to team back up to go after the green men. INVASION ROSWELL isn't going to be mistaken for THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL but if you enjoy this type of low-budget film then this one here offers a few fun things. As you'd expect, the special effects are pretty bad from start to finish and in fact a few of the earlier ones seem to have been a tribute to the visual style of an Atari game. The effects are laughable at times but then again you don't really watch these type of films expecting ground-breaking work. The two most familiar names in the cast are going to be Denise Crosby (PET SEMETERY) and Greg Evigan and both of them offer up good performances but so do the rest of the cast members. The performances were certainly a lot better than you'd see in this type of film. The biggest problem with the movie is that there's just not enough fun. The film starts off pretty well as we see the alien attack a man by blowing his head off but this type of effect really isn't seen again. There certainly aren't enough invasion scenes and there's just not much going on here to really draw you into the film. INVASION ROSWELL is slightly entertaining as long as you don't take it too serious but at the same time there's no question that more could have been done with it.
Another SyFy Channel movie to grace the screen, but unfortunately this one doesn't extinguish itself from the rest of the bunch. And it is essentially a very predictable Sci-Fi movie. The story is about a group of middle aged, retired soldiers saving planet earth from aliens! A unit of extraterrestrial special operatives are sent into retirement, but have to don their uniforms and weapons one last time as aliens return to Earth to invade the planet for some unknown reason. And as it is with these kind of movies, then you know the ending right from the very beginning. And true enough, the movie does not let down the audience on this account."Invasion Roswell" suffered badly from a predictable storyline and bad CGI effects, which essentially was the killer of the enjoyment for the movie, as the acting done by the people on the cast list was actually good enough - but they just had very little to work with.It should be said that the alien suits were actually looking nice, although it sort of took the entire alien being away from the movie as they wore helmets and we only got to see one alien while it was undergoing an autopsy. When we are first introduced to the alien weapons, I nearly spilled my drink. The weapons looked so much like those toy guns you can get for the PlayStation 3 Move controllers - into which you put the controller and wield the combined two pieces like an actual "weapon". It was hilarious."Invasion Roswell" might actually have something to offer to the audience that enjoy cheesy, campy and generic Sci-Fi movies. This is not a million-dollar Hollywood CGI-fest, so don't get your hopes up. For me, despite its predictability and cheesiness, then "Invasion Roswell" gets a 3 out of 10 rating - there is just something bizarrely entertaining about these campy movies.
