hyped garbage
If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
"The Den" is a web cam chat web site. Elizabeth (Melanie Papalia) actually gets a grant to talk to people on the web site as some sort of human behavior study. In doing so, she witnesses a snuff film and someone takes control of her computer. As people she knows seem to disappear, Elizabeth becomes more worried and desperate. This is another hand held camera production. It takes 10 minutes for something unusual to happen. There were some decent scenes, but there was also too much jerk the camera around for realism to suit me.A horror film aimed at teens.Parental Guide: F-bomb. sex. male nudity.
The idea behind this movie is pretty interesting. You get people communicating through webcam(like the unfriended abomination movie) and some very shaky cameras with characters running around(found footage. The result was disappointing to say the least.I mean a 6.1 out of 10?..IMDB at it's very finest once again.A girl makes a project about people and their everyday lives seen through webcam.During her talks with strangers through chat web sites, she encounters what appears to be a murder. She goes to the police but nothing happens and after that one by one,her friends are either dying or missing. Most of the times you see nothing interesting, just people wanting to see boobs online and human parts shaking all over the screen. It was pretty funny but not what I wanted from this movie. She goes to the police once again and while everyone seems to have gone completely dump, they either get killed or ignore her.The climax of the movie finds us in a dark basement with the protagonist being head strapped with a camera, her tormentors showing her videos of her friends getting killed and then she herself follows the same fate. While there are some interesting ideas here, like the whole webcam thing or how you are guided to believe that there is only one bad guy while in reality there is a whole organization behind these killings and they are showing them to people online after subscribe and pay or how this is all a thing because of the demand-so we are talking about the sickness-of everyday people(family men etc.) supporting this horrific scenario and giving it life, the plot is too simple, the acting is nothing special and the camera-play is too exhausting. While the movie is only 1h and 16 minutes,I thought it had lasted over an hour when it was ONLY at 40:00...The characters act in the exact way needed for them to die,so it gets on your nerves and for the most part you see pointless through-webcam interacting with strangers. The killings are nothing special either. You do not really get to know the characters so you feel nothing when they die.And they die in simple ways.I get the intention for the film to look realistic but they went too realistic,so it was boring.I was rooting for the bad guys, kill them so I can go to sleep. The only thing worth mentioning here is the protagonist's backside and the scene where she was getting some.....But go watch p*rn instead.4/10 from me....3 points for the ideas and 1 for her hot body.Do not have high expectations.
I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I expected to. For some time I have been searching for a well executed Thriller/Slasher film utilizing the dark underbelly of the internet as a key factor in the plot. In many ways this movie is what I hoped Untraceable would be like, despite the fact that this movie appears to be much more under-rated.The acting is pretty good and the fact that a large proportion of the movie is shot as if watching it on a computer screen really adds an interesting dynamic and adds to the overall immersive feel of the movie.Definitely worth a watch if you're a fan of this sub-genre of thriller.
I think this film is worth seeing despite its flaws. It's very modern and, in its attempt to capture life in the new digital age, doesn't do that bad. At least it does get a few points for trying. What surprised me was the level of violence in the film. It's pretty gruesome, almost as if it was designed by the people who bring you 'Best Gore' or any of those real graphic snuff footage so prevalent on the internet these days. Just Google 'Dnepropetrovsk maniacs' and you'll see what I mean. They used to make movies like these back in the 70's before Hollywood became ball-less and sterile. I'm glad depraved filmmaking is slowly making a comeback.
