This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
People are voting emotionally.
good back-story, and good acting
This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
This film tracks very closely the content of the 1913 nitrate film of Dr. Charles A. Pryor "Associated Press Reporter and President, El Paso Feature Film Co." held by the Library of Congress as the AFI/Seffens Collection. The Banderas film credits Mary Pickford's long-time cameraman George Rosher as the cinematographer covering Villa's battles, although it appears there were a large number of foreign cameramen filming both Villa's rebel army and the Federal defenders, including Charles Pryor, with Rosher one of those confirming Pryor's cinematic efforts in the form of a notarization dated "Presidio, Texas, Jan 12, 1914."Pryor's effort "The Great Mexican War," was shown in theaters in San Francisco and Sacramento in April 1914 and later in Europe. I have jpgs of the original lobby posters if anyone is interested.
This was a film based on true events that you can actually happened between 1912-1916 during the Mexican Revolution. You can check it right here at IMDb just type Pancho Villa and see the results; there four short films were made where Pancho Villa starred as himself, but good luck finding those films. I sure like to see those and see how closeto the truth this film was. Over all this was a very impressive film for an HBO TV film, Antonnio Banderas did a great job, even thought he didn't look anything like Villa who was a short and small stature of a man and he actually looked a lot more like the actor "Damián Alcázar" who plays "Gen. Rodolfo Fierro" in this film; there is a close resemblance if you see the pictures of Villa and after all Alcazar is a real Mexican compare to Banderas who is from Spain. Both the photography and location of this film was just perfect, especially the photography and the great choice of location to be able to shoot in Mexico with a great cast of real Mexican extras who really added so much authenticity and depth to this film. Its really a pity Hollywood doesn't do more historical films like this, this film was only about the deal Villa made with Hollywood to shoot his revolution and yet there is so much more to be made into a film such as the Mexican revolution and history of Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata who changed the course of History in Mexico. Maybe one day people like Robert Rodriguez who some how gets so much money handed to them to make dumb films like "once upton in Mexico" (which was the most dumbest and awful film I have ever seen) decide to look into their own history and find there is so much more to be depicted for the younger generation of Mexicans who have never even heard of Pancho Villa.
Antonio Banderas is not my favorite actor, but with the 13th Warrior, and now this I see that his talent is wasted on "action/adventure" flicks, which is where I have usually seen him. However, with the viewing of this film I now see he is indeed an actor of high caliber.Every gesture he made I was lost in the character and utterly forgot it was Banderas acting - this is superb. The anger, frustration, tiredness came through in his every word and gesture. Also note how Banderas is able to act in the style of silent films. This is no small task because you have to step backward, step out of yourself, and step into very uncomfortable shoes.Because the movie has a "TV feel" to it I only gave it a 9/10, but Banderas' performance is absolutely 11/10.-ZafoidPS: An exceptional movie is always surrounded by an exceptional supporting caste and crew.-Z
Banderas makes me weak in the knees... Never have I seen a finer actor. Antonio Banderas has risen to become one of the most gifted and brilliant actors of our generation. This made for HBO movie only goes to show his superb acting skills and his zest for acting. This movie shows the Mexican Revolution and the Man who gave his life for his country. Banderas takes a role and when the movie is over you have to remind yourself that he is not really Pancho Villa. I have never seen a hollywood actor take on such a variety of roles and excel in them all. I highly recommend this movie to history buffs and all Banderas fans. 5 out of 5 *****
