This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Jackie is a comic icon, attempting to reinvent himself despite his audience only wanting to know him as a television character he played earlier in his career. After accosting an audience member, Jackie is sentenced to community service where he meets Harmony Schiltz. The Comedian is far from being De Niro's best worst but it's also far from being his worst. The supporting cast was great DeVito, Keitel and even a small cameo from Billy Crystal. This movie had charisma, it was pretty fun and both De Niro and Mann had a very good chemistry together. (7/10)
Not sure what you might expect with this movie, but I happened upon it on cable and fell in love... with Leslie Mann. NO ONE alive can deliver a rant like she does - funny - warm - amazing - and funny again - all at once!In this film she meets De Niro while performing community service and wackiness ensues!I think this movie is totally worth seeing, simply because there are so many funny actors and comedians and because there are so many funny lines sprinkled throughout the film. But mostly see it for Leslie Mann. She's wonderful.
I thought the movie was excellent. It wonderfully captures the day to day life of stand up comedians, their inner circles and the pros and cons of the profession. De Niro carries the movie on his own and Leslie Mann adds charm to it in her own imitable way. Some of the lines were funny, but if I was looking for a fun galore, I would be watching Comedy Central.
DeNiro is my one of my all-time favorite actors. I love his movies...this one I didn't. I thought it was over the top. The foul language, which I have definitely experienced in stand up comedy (and actually love) seemed forced. It didn't feel at all like DeNiro was enjoying this role and every scene he was in, felt like it. In fact the last couple of movies he's been in have felt like it. I don't know if he is continuing to take roles simply for the paycheck, but I wish he would be more choosy in his role picks!
