Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

I watched this on a whim the first time and was really pleased. But its only after some years of going back to it that I realize just how powerful and effective this little gem is. The key to the film is that it is an ACTOR'S film. Each scene is indeed ONE long take without a cut! All the main actors in this have done serious stage work and this made them fall back on their best stage acting skills with intense rehearsal and complex stage-like maneuvers. Bravo to them all.It is made for the actors, it exists entirely through the actors and WHAT ACTORS! The 'Supermarket Scene' with Robin Penn Wright is SO real it is almost physically painful to watch it. Glenn Close is flawless in her tightly controlled heart-breaking vignette, Lisa Gay Hamilton is mysterious and terrifying as a victim of abuse and boldly goes way over the top with her acting - but as a carefully considered choice.Director Garcia is not some effete Sundance flash in the pan - he has paid his dues on TV, doing commercials, all kind of work. He knows the medium and knows how to get what he wants. But also, he is a man more than a little imbued with the magical realism of his father the great novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez.Yes, this is one of those movies that tell me if you are 'my kind of person'. I have a hard time relating to those who find this 'a bore'. I actually feel sorry for those who cannot receive what this film has to offer.

After two and a half lives I was already bored with this, but I stuck with it to the end. Having looked at it from every conceivable angle, I can only conclude that this is one of the most tedious and confusing films I've ever watched. There is no cohesion here, nothing to link all the pieces together. it's pretty much like watching snippets of nine films, then being told they didn't bother finishing them. For what it's worth, the performances from the actors are generally good. Then again, it's not like they had much to do.This is the work of a muddled, warped and depressed mind. I guess I should blame the writer. It's self-indulgent, dull, baffling, pretentious twaddle. There is a fine line between art and madness: this is madness.

I am so sad to have to rate this a 1 out of 10. It was a total 10 until the out-of-the-blue ending. The actors were fabulous. You just have to know going into it that nothing is really resolved or figured out by the viewer. You watch very engaging snippets of women's harried lives, yet the whole experience leaves the viewer wanting more. More of an explanation, more of a follow-through. It's like reading the middle of a wonderfully gripping book, but then having no beginning and no ending. Each chapter on each woman had so much depth and intrigue, but again, you never find out why things are like they are or where things are going when they could take on so many different pathways. There's so much potential to see where the women end up, or what decisions they make based on little morsels of potential truths. I felt I was led to believe there would be more, but then the movie was over. I was disappointed, all in all.

To think that this movie was not recognized by any bigger award nominations is astounding. The fact that this movie was not recognized or more popular nationally is heartbreaking. EVERY single actress and actor in this movie gave amazing performances. The audience felt the emotion in every single second, and it is a great testament to all of their talents. Sadly, many people will overlook this movie just because it wasn't popular. Words cannot describe the power and ache this movie leaves you feeling. You are saddened and left wanting more, and it is a great attribute of the film. You get just enough of a glimpse to understand these people, but you are still wondering more about each character as the movie progresses. I was blown away. This movie was written so wonderfully and you can feel the heart that was put into making it as well. This movie is a great representation of everyday struggles that women face, the heartache and the sadness that many have to deal with. It was so moving and just a great movie to watch and interpret. Leaves you thinking... GREAT!
