Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.

Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

After watching some really bad war films, you know, the ones with Eric Roberts in them, I was relieved to watch this film and perhaps over rated it by comparison.The film opens up questioning our cause in Afghanistan, a person who wants to do something to change the world, and ends with a positive answer. After a Marine Sargent gets his leg shot off, Corporal Merrimette (Josh Kelly) is given a field promotion and has to take much needed supplies to a unit and cross through Taliban territory. He reluctantly accepts the position having a pregnant wife at home and no desire to re-enlist. In fact his commander (Stephen Lang) asked him if he had submitted his letter of resignation yet, which caught me off guard, because having been in the service, enlisted people did not submit letters of resignation, only officers.They take a truck convey, because an air drop would have made the film too short and besides there is a dust storm that we never see. Along the way, they run into difficulty causing Merimette to make those "world changing" decisions.The characters are introduced by name, rank, and place of origin. Character build up happens with the fun military banter, which normally concerns sex and me having to Google "Queen Christina." Seriously? The acting was fair, the plot needed tightening up. For instance, one time when they were on foot they killed some Taliban with vehicles, but opted to proceed on foot. Not the decision I would have made, but then again I was never a Hollywood Marine.Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex. Early gratuitous male nudity.

Marine Corporal Chris Merrimette reluctantly takes a promotion from Major James Gavins (Stephen Lang) as the new leader of his supply squad after his sergeant gets killed by the Taliban. He is eager to return to his wife. His unit consists of Corporal Danny Kettner (Bokeem Woodbine), Lance Corporal Dani Allen, Private Rafael Soto, and Private Justin Li. Afghan Army Private Khalid Hassan Abu Faisal joins them on a resupply mission to a dangerous outpost. They are retasked when they pick up a SEAL team trying to evacuate an anti-Taliban activist.The interesting thing about the first Jarhead is that the guy struggled with a war which doesn't need him. This is almost an opposite premise. Chris can't wait to get out of the war that desperately needs him. I'm fine with a completely new premise for a completely new war. There is plenty of gunfire action which is more than what I expect from a TV movie. The realism is debatable and that's no small thing. I really question Kettner pulling Faisal off the garbage pile. It would be more real to run away and let the new Arab take the bomb blast if that's what he wants. That conflict between realistic and unrealistic never goes away. I'm sure others have different ideas. The kill ratio seems high. Several times, the guys wipe out the entire opposition. The final rescue mission seems unrealistic. I don't know why they didn't at least try the Taliban's trucks. The realism questioning goes on and on. It's not Rambo but it's not that far from it. Some of the masked Taliban fighters look white. At least, the setting looks good.

Yes, I know this is just a movie, but if you're going to make a movie about 'something', then you should probably research whatever it is first. There are just way too many mistakes and awkward conversations/interactions between the Marines to make this enjoyable. First off, the conversation about "bushes" (no, not the foliage) was completely out of place and bizarre. 2). If you find me an ANA guy that runs in front of everyone and successfully deactivates an IED by himself...I'll eat my hat. 3). The optics used were incorrect, and some of them weren't even put on properly. Holographic sites were backwards and so were the red dots. 4). The weapons used were incorrect. Should be using M4's not M16A4. Furthermore, why did one of the Marines have an SBR?5). Why were the Taliban using LAWs?6). If you ride the charging handle on a .50 cal you're going to be in for a rough time.7). If you unload your entire magazine on full auto you're not going to be hitting much at 50+ yards. No one does that in real life. 8). The segment where they're unloading full-auto during a 'training exercise' was just...the female 'Marine' didn't even shoulder the weapon properly.I think that's enough for now. Please, if you're going to make a movie about the military, at least put in some time to research everything and train the actors in the proper use of their equipment.

I enjoyed the first 'Jarhead' film and was curious as to what any 'sequel' would be like. However, at least I kept my expectations low as I knew this was not produced by the same cast or crew as the first, plus part II was released straight-to-DVD, so, how good could it be? The answer... quite good actually, but only as a generic war film, rather than a sequel.Okay, so occasionally the film mimics the original in style (think captions, mainly near the beginning) and it uses the term 'jarhead' a couple of times, but that's about it. In fact... I'm running out of other things that link the two films.So, the best thing to do is basically just ignore everything you know about the first movie and go with what's on offer. And, what's on offer is a war movie set in modern Afghanistan. A small team of marines (or 'jarheads' to be precise) are on a routine mission, only to find themselves forced to protect an important female local as she travels across arguably one of the most dangerous regions in the world.Bottom line: if you like war films, you'll probably enjoy this. It's actually got a half reasonable budget and doesn't feel too much like a straight-to-DVD movie.
