This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

I was looking on the business tab and it was weird. This film cost $20-million?Where did the money go? Was it for the crack that the writers smoked when putting this script together? That makes sense... given Chris Rock saying that he would just have soon had received an envelope full of crack than this script (on the fun facts tab).Looking at the business, it seems the film made under $5-million. That means it lost $15-million. Yikes! From the entertainment perspective, it took a lot of suspension of disbelief and ignoring blatant stereotypes and lapses in logic in order to try and extract the few drops of humor out of this film.

I don't know how to begin with that! I mean what to comment on first? The lousy acting? The poor script?... I am sure that this film (such as many others) has just been "made" so we can say; There are definitely more hilarious "things" that exist in life... And that is this film. (if it can be regarded as a real film) It's a total waste of time! It's just awful and doesn't have a point. Besides the ending is so expected; The spoiled girl ends up with the bad guy who changes because of her and so does she! Bla,bla,bla... How common! And the rest of the film is definitely nothing special. When the film ends, the first thing that comes to your mind is; I want back these 84 minutes of my life! Trust me, it's a total waste of time! DON'T WATCH THIS..."FILM"!

When I saw this movie 3 years ago I was surprised at how awful it really was. I mean why the hell would you make this movie into a musical when none of the actors in it can sing? I thought this movie would be about Lisa Kudrow trying to act black, which would have been funny since she is the whitest girl I have ever seen, but the director decided not to go that route, like the title entails, and decided to make it into a romance musical which had a total of ONE funny moment. When Wayne's character starts singing "I wanna love you IN THE BUTT, IN THE BUTT, IN THE BUTT!!!" and all the backup singers had red targets painted on their rear ends. Thats about the only funny part of the movie, and you only laugh for a few seconds. Anyone who rated this movie a 10 either is a HUGE Waynes brother fan, or they love the smooth, sensual voice of Lisa Kudrow when she sings (FUBAR!)

I was trying to decide on whether I should rent this movie or not. Usually you'll see a few bad reviews from people who were not part of the target demo for the movie. But the number of bad reviews and the degree of anger from some of the reviewers suggest that maybe I should save myself my two hours? Here's what I can't understand. How did Scott Rudin allow this movie to be made. Did he think the demos in the U.S. had suddenly shifted so that 40% of the U.S. population were either JAPs or parents of one. And the treatment of the "hip-hop" crowd is offensive, and I didn't even see the movie. In this day and age of market research testing prior to launch, you gotta wonder how did this ever see the light of day? Rudin should clean house after this $20 million bomb.
