Brain Dead

A sleepy fishing port town is consumed with terror when a small crater crash-lands nearby and releases a slimy parasitic agent that transforms the residents into brain-eating zombies. Cornered in an abandoned fishing lodge, six strangers are forced to band together to stave off the blood-sucking monsters clawing the walls outside.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

A pair of felons on there way to lock up, one psychotic, the other merely overtly sarcastic, meet up with a lecherous preacher, the young girl he's pining for, a comely yet accident prone park ranger, and two hikers communing with nature (not necessarily in that order) while holed up in a backwoods cabin while an alien black ooze turns random people into brain-hungry zombies outside.A pretty decent throwback to the B-grade horror films of the 1980's, it has it's fair share of flaws. But it's fun and provides the essential gore to nude skin ratio that were a staple of great '80's horror films. And while the film isn't nearly as great as the awesome Peter Jackson film of the same name, It scratched that 'bad' film itch something good.Eye Candy: Christina Tibera gets topless, Tess McVicker shows T&A; and Sarah Brendecke & Michelle Tomlinson both get fully nudeMy Grade: B-Where I saw it: Netflix Instant

It was a bit of a hard to get, had to buy it in Hong Kong of all places but it was worth buying. Have seen the trailer it already caught me. But sometimes trailers could mislead you showing already the best parts, well, this one have some other beauties to shown beyond the trailer. For example, every girl in the movie has a opportunity to shown their mountain dews. And it isn't gratuitous! It never distract you from the movie and that's already a fine treat. And the storyline is so great, the acting is for an independent excellent. And I thought to recognize Michelle Tomlinson from somewhere. Well, it's from the turkey, The Cellar Door but here she gives a great performance. The special effects are great too, the head blast, the hand through the head, didn't spoil the story by that, it's in the trailer you morons! And don't let us forget the humor throughout the movie. You will have it all, T&A, gore, humor, and suspense. A worth seeing.

Let's face it...some movies merely exist as a vehicle to turn your brain off for an hour and a half or so. They are not for thinkers, hipsters, or people who don't know a joke when they see one. That is precisely why movies like Brain Dead get made and sometimes they'll make you happy that they do get made. Unlike a good number of big budget blockbusters who are just as goofy but take themselves way too seriously, a fair amount of movies (especially in the horror genre) plant their tongue firmly in cheek and keep winking at the camera. There's nothing terribly original here...a bunch of people from different walks of life and about as different as they could possibly be wind up in a cabin in the middle of nowhere under assault by the undead. Yes, you've seen it before...but there's not a ton of fertile ground for new zombie stories. Be my guest and try, but I'm betting a fair number of zombie purists will cry and whine. On the whole this movie looks like it had a bit of a budget but it certainly won't have you checking to see why did the special effects. It kind of looks like a Sci-Fi Channel movie that way...not low budget but certainly watching what it spends.None of the actors are particularly stand out but they all do their jobs just fine. And, as a man, I have no problem with clearly gratuitous amounts of nudity. Complain if you want, but boobs just belong in horror movies. Period. Now previously I mentioned the special effects...that only goes for the CGI. All of the practical effects and gore are actually done pretty well and usually with hilarious consequences. Bottom line is that if every movie you watch simply MUST have some thought provoking subtext, steer clear of this movie and stay the hell away from me as well. You're far too self serious and need to be kept away from society. If you can, on the other hand, agree to turn your brain off for a bit of time, maybe crack open a beer or two and have a couple laughs this may be worth a look. That's more than I can say for a lot of horror movies being made these days.

I just finished watching this movie at the Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, Ky. It's a pretty damn good little film. While it's not ground breaking in any way, it's a lot of fun and brings T & A back to horror films where it belongs. Back in the 80's breasts and horror went hand in hand, sadly that's no longer so except for fine films like this one. The biggest problem I think this film will have in finding an audience is the name since there are already at least two other films in the genre that go by the same title. Hopeful I'll be able to pick it up on DVD soon. Begin SpoilerBy the way, beware that space amoebas hide in the strangest places.End Spoiler
