The River Murders

The sins of the past are not forgotten in this chilling suspense thriller. When the first body was discovered, it seemed a coincidence. But now homicide detective Jack Verdon has cause to worry: the victims of a series of brutal sex murders are all his former girlfriends. Suspected by the FBI agent who’s taken over the case and suspended by his captain, Jack must work outside the law if he’s to find the killer, save his future and protect what’s left of his past.

It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

I thought this film was actually pretty good but predictable. I watched it this morning on GET- TV. The film is set in Washington State with Ray Liotta as a veteran detective. When there is a serial killer on the loose, the investigation makes startling connections to Liotta's character. At first, he is under suspicion for the crimes. Ray Liotta does a decent acting job here as Detective Jack Verdon. The rest of the cast includes Ving Rhames and Christian Slater among the investigation team. The scenes by the river are quite picturesque. Jack's life is examined and there are flashbacks to his teenage years. He is happily married to Ana who can't have children. The film has terrible scenes of horror with the crimes. As soon as we know it isn't Jack, we're waiting for Jack to catch the killer. The ending is abrupt but predictable. The serial killer in this film reminds me of an episode of Criminal Minds. Anyway, if you enjoy crime and mystery films, you should watch this film just for entertainment.

A film is meant to engage. Is this not true? So based on this observation one would be hard pressed to find this film anything but. The plot is something that is new and quite disturbing when you consider that the prime suspects own mother becomes part of the endless list of his past dalliances. The acting is great but not exceptional but this can be forgiven because of the amazing twists and turns this movie makes. If not for the obvious predictability of much of this movie it would have made the full 10. But alas this is not the case. Worth watching? definitely! Worth watching again... Well that is all up to the individual. Ray Liotta lends his usual flare to the assorted actors and Vhing Rhames makes for a considerate cohort. Tension is lacking for the most part but like a worn reality show its a matter of lets just see what happens next. Worth a watch!

The River Murders is a fairly entertaining thriller vehicle for Ray Liotta that tries hard to be in the same grisly territory as stuff like Sev7n, and winds up looking pretty silly in its efforts. It takes place on a rural community in the Midwest, where a serial killer is leaving bodies for authorities to find. Detective Jack Verdon (Liotta) does some digging and finds that that himself and the killer may have met before in the past, making it personal. This causes unrest for both the department and Verdon's mental state, prompting the arrival of an overzealous Federal agent (Christian Slater, annoying as hell here), and the concern of his captain (Ving Rhames). It's fun watching Liotta spin out of control, and the film climaxes with reasonable intensity, but showcases nothing unique or noteworthy. Raymond J. Barry has a nice bit as Liotta's father too.

This film has some interesting aspects but they aren't good enough to outshine anything in this hunk of garbage. I couldn't stand some of the acting with how inconsistent and off key it was, for example Gisele Fraga which played Ana really annoyed me because she constantly contradicted everything she did or said. To elaborate further on that I will say how Ana always made an idiot out of her self by constantly saying I don't care when she very clearly and obviously did care. Plus unless Ana had a major case of bi polar disorder Gisele and the writers screwed up there, she would be hardcore arguing with jack when out of no where she brings up how she is pregnant and now they're both happy and loving each other which clearly doesn't make sense.Another inconsistent character is the main killer aka jacks bastard son, all throughout the film he's talking about how jack will burn in hell and he will show no mercy and so forth when in the end after killing all those women and even the unborn children in the bellies he let Ana and her kid live. So overall the inconsistency makes this film really stupid and badly made. The films highlights were not as common as they should have been but even if the highlights appeared more frequently it still wouldn't have been nearly enough to make up for all the ridiculous inconsistency. If you enjoyed it good for you but for me I just hate it for plenty of reasons I've already listed, if you haven't seen this movie and you're reading this review do yourself a favor and skip this one and go watch seven. Seven has a somewhat similar story with a much better story, consistency, acting, and climax (among the most memorable in my opinion). That's the end of my review thanks for reading.
