Crappy film
Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
Yo, there's no way for me to review this film without saying, take your *insert ethnicity + "ass" here* to see this film, like now. You have to see it in order to know what you're really messing with.
The Bat has a woman writer who is like Agatha Christie. She stays at a house that has a mysterious reputation.A person called the "Bat" kills women. Miss Cornelia wrote murder mysteries and does not scare easy. She does her own investigating in this story. The story was good but some things did not make sense. They throw you off guard to make you think someone else as the Bat. They make 4 men looks like suspects. The Bat kills women with gloves that have claws and wears a mask. There is more than one killer in this movie. The Bat cuts all the telephone wires in the house so the women cannot call out. Police are stationed around the house no one is caught. One cop is stationed in the house. He drinks wine that is drugged and passes out. He is supposed to guard 5 women and a butler. The goofy thing that happens is this drugged cop calls the police station from the phone in the house where the wires were cut recently. Then to me the suspense falls apart a bit. If they cannot see their own mistake about making the phone work when it has been cut I don't know. Vincent Price is in this and he is always a nut case. The movie is in black and white. Agnes Moorehead plays the writer. She is young, beautiful and smart.Really a pretty good mystery. I've gotta love these ladies! They are quite funny, tough and pretty smart. They are out to help crack the mystery of "the bat"! Who is "the bat"? You'll have to watch this interesting mystery-thriller to find the answer. This movie is worth watching if you love a good mystery with a few thrills involved. There's a bit of humor thrown into the mix for those that like a little comedy in their mysteries - just enough to spice things up a bit.Agnes Moorehead is about as tough as she can be as Cornelia van Gorder - I can tell you she's not "the bat" but she's out to get him. Moorehead's role as Gorder is almost as scary as "the bat" because she can be as mean as a bat in at times in this flick. Great performance from Agnes - which is one of the reasons this film is worth watching! Vincent Price- what can I say? He's got a quiet wickedness in this film that is, well, "Priceless" ;) Good film over all - makes a great late night flick! 8/10
It's a 'murder mystery in the old house' type of film. The story is ludicrous but just about falls into the "so bad it's worth watching" category. There are people wandering around the house inside and out, lights going on and off, screams in the night etc..The film has an air of being made in about 1930 and appears more like a play than a film. The creaking in the film is not from the house but the script and acting, no problem with Vincent Price who is always value for money but fans may be disappointed as he has very little screen time. The film appears to have had a budget of about £100 including processing at the local photo shop(quality of the print I saw was poor). If you want a decent piece of Vincent hokum then look at "The Tingler" another low budget film he made about the same time. The tag line "Someone dies when it flies" is only half true as the film certainly died but didn't fly, although you may flee when you see.Don't expect much and it will pass a hour.
Crane Wilbur both directed and wrote this mystery thriller that stars Agnes Moorhead as mystery writer Cornelia Van Gruder, who has rented a country house called "The Oaks", where a series of mysterious murders took place allegedly committed by a masked figure called "The Bat". Vincent Price plays Dr. Malcolm Wells, a charming but murderous man who is after some embezzled bank money that is hidden somewhere in the house. Of course, "The Bat" is back, and after it too, pursued by investigating officer Andy Anderson. A fresh series of murders take place there, and it is a race against time to find the money, and unmask "The Bat". Good cast can't save tired plot. The identity of the killer is obvious, though also silly, with the violent "claw" murders from "The Bat" being jarring.
