Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
At first sight, it seems to be a Disney Channel stuff, a movie destined to kids and families for matinees shows. But, believe me, it is not. The first part is rather lousy, flat and uninteresting but the following is worth watching. You have different paces in this TV film. This is definitely a survival and the natural settings are beautiful. But I am not sure that this was so close to the actual events it was inspired from. This was much fiction, more spectacular than the reality, for obvious reasons. The final sequence is mind blowing, unforgettable. So, before showing it to your kids, beware. Yes, the most unusual here is the difference of paces, some parts for children, and other destined to adults, and not sissies. Curious but highly interesting. Great Aussies piece of work. Some elements are difficult to be believed in. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERSAfter the kids, stabbed to last gangster to death in the most brutal way, bloody feast, the return to their school duties, as if nothing happened. I am not sure that this really happened this way. And the last image of this terrific little movie is also unforgettable.
Made for a TV audience in 1985 this is one of those films that needs wider attention. The plot is quite simple in that a small Outback school where only nine children of varying ages attend is overseen by an English school teacher. This is Sally Jones played by Rachel Ward ('On The Beach' and 'Against All Odds'). Then in the middle of a normal school day four masked gunmen turn up and kidnap them.Once they are secreted in the bush they soon realise that these guys are not going to win any prizes for being nice. So they decide to escape, but things are never quite straight forward and events take a different turn when they realise they can't run any more. Now to say this is a little beaut is putting it mildly. The children are all excellent especially Sean Garlick as Sid who went on to be in 'Home and Away'. It has the right pacing the right levels of tension and a rip roaring adventure into the bargain. This is one that if you have missed it then you have a real treat waiting for you in this superb production.
Just to let you know the writer of Fortress (the man who gave us plot holes) is working with Asher Keddie (Sue) on a new project.http://channelnine.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=123752I guess those Aussies really stick together.Writer Everett Deroche Everett is an established writer with a long list of credits to his name for both television and feature films over 25 years. His work crosses an eclectic mix of writing credits including Australian classics such as The Sullivans, Truckies, Police Rescue, The Flying Doctors, The Man from Snowy River and Stingers to award-winning feature films including Razorback, Link and Visitors. He is currently developing the feature film Eureka Stockade and is the script manager for Film Victoria, which is where he heard about the making of Two Twisted.
Mesmerizing. I loved this movie because once started I could not take my eyes off the screen in case I missed something. Excellent casting of characters - you feel you are there - part of the action taking place. AND what action! All School Teachers should be like this one. The thrill factor of this movie comes with the fight between Good & Evil. We all want Good to conquer but sometimes this does not happen. I would like anyone who has not seen this movie to watch it because it is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I would love to tell the end but I won't. You have to see it for yourself. The last few lines I have filled in because I could not leave my comment without leaving 10 lines of comment.
