It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

Warning do not read unless seen episode. This I thought was a great send off for the Eleventh Doctor, he's my second favorite Doctor if you can believe that which made his departure all the more sad for me.I like the plot line which in a way is sort of like your one or few against the world premise which is cool though in this case it's against the universe, as the Doctor is forced to defend a planet called Christmas which of course becomes Trensalore in the future from forces that want to destroy the portal that contains Galafrey and of course every nasty posse wants to destroy it for no good reason. So if the Doctor leaves the planet undefended for a mere moment then both planets are destroyed. Yeah, it's a pretty tall order for the Doctor let alone anyone. This is a different premise because the Doctor never stayed in one place for a lifetime, let alone the fact he is literally defending two entirely planets throughout that lifetime. One of the moments that was interesting was seeing a wooden Cyberman as a way to shield of the Doctor's sonic screwdriver frequency. But of course they overlooked one crucial detail as that Cyberman can't be wood all over. But then of course things get really emotional as we see Clara come to the Doctor's homestead. I really like how the place has letters and pictures of the Doctor all around, it pretty much represents us the fans and how long our love for him. I'll admit when I saw the Doctor really old, it really made my heart sink because it reminded me of how mortal he truly is.The whole theme of the episode is about facing the end, seeing him old and possibly dying just shows that no one lives forever and how precious time truly is.We then see a moment where it looks really bad for the planet as the Daliek mother ship swoops down along with an armada and are about to annihilate him and everything else. At that point I wasn't really sure what the Doctor or anyone can do. But then of course the planet Galafrey gives the Doctor regenerative energy, pretty much a whole new lease on life. I personally thought it was a spectacular moment as we see the Doctor literally have the power of a God, as he is just blasting away at the Dalieks and the Mothership, this moment also marks the Eleventh Doctor going out in a blaze of glory. Then it of course comes down to the final moment which are the most heartbreaking of all. After the Doctor gives a final speech that was great, we then see someone from his past which is Amy Pond. That moment was really tugged at my heart string as we know Amy has passed on a long time ago, though I wish they also had Rory and River I not sure why they didn't but oh well. But all th same seeing Amy again and what she says to the Doctor showed that the Eleventh Doctor is going to be joining his family which is something he never really had much. And of course we see him take off that bow tie and it drops to the ground. That's when I know the Eleventh Doctor is gone; that just made me break down and cry. Clara says one last thing to him, "Please don't change." that's exactly how I felt about the Eleventh Doctor and every other Doctor before him.Farewell Matt Smith, you really brought out the best as the Doctor which is why you'll be greatly missed, but like the constellations in the sky timeless.Rating: 4 stars

I cannot believe so many people were disappointed with this episode. As someone who either wants to get into either writing or Critical reviews, I thought this episode was masterful. As a huge fan of Matt's seasons (except series 7 part 2) I was delighted to see all of the plot threads of series 5, 6 and 7 very well tied up. We discovered who blew up the TARDIS, who the Silence were, why everything from series 5 and 6 happened with the entire story arc also tying into Gallifrey being saved in The day of the doctor. It was also a great paradox revelation that the Silence, in attempting to stop the siege from happening, ended up causing it themselves, a very nice throwback to Day of the daleks. Matt Smith also owned the whole damn episode, giving the best performance of his entire acting career. As for plot holes in this episode, people complaining were obviously not paying enough attention. Why doesn't the doctor just evacuate all the citizens? Because Tasha was going to blow up the planet anyway, and obviously the doctor doesn't want an entire planet to be destroyed. Why doesn't the doctor just leave? Because if he leaves, they will still blow up the planet because they can't take the risk. Why were the Silence fighting alongside the doctor? Because they were priests that were still loyal to the papal mainframe. Also, it really does depress me how lots of reviewers on here are complaining about it "not being epic enough". Seriously, that's not reviewing, that's just being an idiot. As for Matt's regeneration, it was masterful. HANDS DOWN the best regeneration in the show's history. Matt's final lines were beautiful and managed to stay true to the character of the doctor. And as for his quick change into Capaldi? I loved it. I can't understand all the people who have complained about it being too fast (obviously people who have never watched classic who). One of my favourite YouTubers, Who addicts reviews, put it perfectly when they said "Can you honestly imagine Matt's face morphing into Capaldi's? Also, the quick change was brilliant it gave Capaldi's first appearance more impact". That perfectly sums up my thoughts on the regeneration. By the way, I also have to mention the death of Handles. That is a scene that makes me cry (and I almost never cry at TV) every time I watch it, thanks to a combination of brilliant writing and brilliant acting by Smith. I also found the doctor ageing to death on Trenzalore very tragic and the fact he was about to end his life facing his greatest enemies (The Daleks) was very fitting. I also thoroughly enjoyed the episode. Do I have any criticisms about the episode? Well, Tasha Lem was annoying and was a lazy re-hash of River Song and the episode was a little bit rushed. That's it. Those are the only criticisms I have. Overall, I thought this was a very fitting send-off to Smith and I thought it was even BETTER than Day of the doctor. So yes, 10/10. One of my favourite episodes.

Let Me Start By saying i am Big Doctor Who Fan i have watched every Episode from Christopher Eccleston To Matt Smith have them all on DVD and also have many Classic Doctor Who Adventures on DVD There is no Doubt Steven Moffatt had a lot to Live up to when Russel T Davis Departed the Series not to mention he would begin his era with a new Doctor Matt Smith and to be honest series 5 was shall we say a Resonable start for moffatt as it the first of his three seasons so far you have to cut the guy some slack a good effort and hopefully you can build on that in series 6 Series 6 would start to show us the Direction moffat would take the show now don't get me wrong series 6 is much better then 5 but you start to get a bit worried when you fail to understand whats going on in some episodes and the story lines become more complex as the series continues Finally when we reach the final episode of series 6 all is revealed and we finally understand what we have been watching and how it all fits although at the end your not really caring anymore your just glad you see the ending and so we head to series 7 where we realise how bad a writer Steven Moffat is and bad it can get series 7 i am afraid is the worse series so far it is just bad where we had Russel T Davis giving one big storyline stretching through a entire series and climaxing at the final episode we have nothing here just episode after episode of well nothing the only episode worth a mention in the entire series 7 run is the episode Amy and Rory are killed off which for me was a mistake why kill off to great characters you can bring back in the future although saying that i am sure Mr Moffat will some really complex way to bring them back should the need arise so with series 7 done we head to the 50th anniversary of doctor and the the big 50th episode the Day of the Doctor the return of everyone's favourite Doctor David Tennet side by side with Matt smiths Doctor and a new regeneration of the doctor we don't know about up to now the war Doctor play by the excellent John Hurt now just to explain the the war doctor is the regeneration between Paul mcgann and Christopher eccleston the reason for this well there is Mr Moffat wants john hurt in it and a actor of his standing is hardly gonna want a bit part is he so Moffat come up with the idea of another doctor no one knows about now just note on the time war by destroying or freezing in time gallifrey you really take away a big chunk of Doctor Who how many would like to see the doctors home planet and learn more of the history behind the times Lords i would but sadly that won't happen so here we are the 50th anniversary Episode The day of the Doctor now as we know the overall opinion is it was a worthy 50th year episode my Opinion well its mixed i felt for Matt smith in this episode he after all the reigning doctor at the times it feels like its still David tenant he seem to get all the scenes and Matt is left with scraps even john hurt gets more to do now i mentioned gallifery earilier and this episode trys to right wrong of the destruction of gallifery and give us the hope we will see it return in all its glory in season 8 instead of its destruction it is freezed in time lets hope thats the case but with moffatt you never can tellnow we come to the Episode The Time of The Doctor Matt Smith's final episode as the Doctor so we expect this big send off a few tears and laughs man what we got was just awful Steven Moffat really messed it up big time Matt smith deserved better then this i wont go in to much detail when you have a Regeneration 5 seconds don't cut itso now Peter capaldi takes the helm when Matt smith took over i was quick to write him off after seeing him the last few seconds of the end of time this was a mistake because Matt did quite a good job so i will will give it a whole series before i make my mind up about peter capaldias for Mr moffat its time you Regenerated into a new writer time is up for you

As the credits rolled. I turned to a fellow 11th fan and we both shrugged. We felt disappointed and cheated. This episode failed to engage or captivate the pair of us.(I've since re-watched the episode, and it's certainly better for a second viewing.)There is a story here in waiting albeit jumbled and incoherent. Luckily it is saved by a few prosaic lines from the Doctor. Some mysteries are answered. The burning question about the finite limit of the Doctor's regenerations has speculation put to rest. There were some gentle pokes at the fans. One example is the Doctor referencing 'the Rules' when shouting at Daleks. Why was the town called Christmas, is there any deeper meaning here? Is it just the bleakness of winter with Trenzalore and Christmas being shrouded in darkness? (Rickets must have been pervasive, perhaps that's why the Doctor required a walking stick.) Or was the stick a Dickensian Scrooge reference? We kind of get a crotchety curmudgeon of a Doctor. There were a couple of plot devices that felt half baked. Such as Handles and the truth field. Is Handles just there to identify Gallifrey and decipher the broadcast? What was the purpose of the truth field? I assumed the stand off would get broken by simply asking the Doctor his name outright (a difficult question to side step there). The Doctor states that he has a plan, and then jokes that he doesn't, another false truth?Technology is outlawed in Christmas and yet we see electric lights, and later Handles and even the Tardis. The Doctor doesn't appear buff upon re- entry to the planet either (is this just skirted over?). If technology is forbidden surely the holographic units should be stripped from them. The pair weren't naked on Trenzalore. The same old foes are dusted off for this Christmas outing: the Cybermen, the Daleks, the Weeping Angels etc. Most of which didn't really add anything and just increased the noise. Please, please put the Daleks to sleep. The featured regeneration was a whopper. But it was two staged, partly to tease us viewers. In some ways I'd have preferred to have this at the outset of the episode to quell expectations. Begin with the end, then let the 11th have his hour.I'll gloss over this story and its imperfections to make way for the next incarnation. I can only hope that the BBC start afresh next time round. I liked the 11th Doctor, but he still feels alien to me, we didn't get enough of him. There weren't many stand out stories, the 11th didn't really get the chance to shine. As a sci-fi fan I would like: less Earth, more Doctor, a new intelligent side kick and some more captivating thought provoking human alien stories. I'm not even that fussed about the time travel! You can throw away the mediocre series spanning story arcs and the dullard companions. So long chinny...
