Wonderful character development!
Best movie of this year hands down!
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
First off the film itself is dull and awful. Terrible acting and a terrible script. But the worse part (and I know this from friends who have had interaction with the real characters) is that they are making Karla a victim when she was the mastermind of most of these sick acts - she was not a victim and the fact that she is portrayed as one is an insult to the true victims and it shows how a sick, immoral Hollywood would praise a killer - why not they want Roman Polanski back after he raped little girls.
To say this movie shouldn't be made is not the problem. When a story like the Scarborough Rapist is as famous as it got, eventually a movie would be made regardless of boycott. However to purposefully dilute the storyline, making it seem that Homolka is the helpless victim just shows how evil this world can be. The fact that it got made, after Homolka's release just adds battery acid to the already open wounds of the victim's family. Speaking as someone who grew up in Scarborough and heard the story most of my life, I was surprised how epically and ethically wrong this movie was. I hope that this director is happy in counting the money he made from the blood of innocent people.
What is scary is how these films get made for the public. Of course, there will be copycats. Viewers that get a kick out of the sordidness of it all. Sick people in the world that movies like this will encourage to continue their sick violence. I blame producers, writers and directors for making these kind of films. They should stop. Don't they read the papers? Next we'll see the Boston Marathon bombings made into a TV special glorifying those two terrorists. It truly makes me sick when I see films like this which costs plenty being spent when we need that money put to better use, like helping the victims of tragedy. I wonder if this producer or writer or director ever contributed their money to a good cause? Lauren Prepon played a useless piece of fluff very well. I hated her throughout the movie and had no sympathy at all for she made her bed and so shall she lie in it. Then there's the demented Misha Collins as the bad little boy. He did okay. I really couldn't get into his performance as I felt he went over the wall with it. And please, get a haircut. That's all.
This movie seemed to try to make the view feel compassion for sorrow for Karla but she showed none to her victims. She and her husband should have been given the death penalty. I don't understand how she could be out of prison and I don't understand how a movie could be made to show any compassion for her. She deserves none! This is another case of a film trying to gain sympathy for the killer and none for the victims or the victim's families. Prepon did an awesome job portraying Karla Holumka. I was ready to feel sorry for her until I read more about her true character. The movie should have shown more of her real self instead of the innocent victim portrayed in the movie Karla. This was a frightening movie because of the truth of it and because of the truth left out of it.
