Watch City in Darkness For Free

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Disappointment for a huge fan!

Best movie ever!

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

I found this movie very scary. I was not born in war times and never experienced what my parents and their families went through.There are lots of characters in this movie. It starts with a woman trying to buy papers to ship out ammunition from France to it's enemies. It shows leaders taking bribes and helping the enemy. The Nazis are invading a lot of countries in 1938 and Mussolini from Italy is supporting Hitler.The people in France are told to draw their blinds and curtains at night because attack airplanes from Germany can see the lights. Street lights are not turned on and cars travel in the dark. If a person's house lights are on or seen from the street they will get fined. This shows war times, gas mask needed but like today the leaders get a chance to celebrate and party like there is no war going on. Chan knows one of the top leaders in France and has drinks and dinner with a group of other men.A few murders take place. Fake passports are sold, tickets to leave France are given to the highest bidder by people using the hard times to get more money from scared people. The movie was informative about war. I did not the like the head man that played Marcel who was a police investigator. He was stupid and too loud. The writers made him try to be funny but he overdid his part and got more attention then Charlie Chan played by Sidney Toler.If for nothing else watch it and learn about a country under attack by another country. I hope I don't have to experience this in the US. It does make you think about it if our freedom is taken away. So to me this is a wake up call we must have a strong military to protect us and people in office in government do their job to keep our country safe and free being our enemies.

Too much idiocy. Too much bad acting. This is kind of propaganda that would have benefited the wrong side. They talk about Neville Chamberlan on his way to try to negotiate for the good of the French people. We all know how that turned out. Usually there is some charm in these things. Not so here. There are contrived forces battling one another, trying to get significant people out of France. That loudmouthed French policeman is insufferable. There is also a lot of confusion as to what the whole goal was and why one person was a bad guy and the next was a good guy. I have to admit to almost dozing off. One reason is an almost total lack of comic relief.

I found this movie pretty flat. And, I confess, I don't like Sydney Toler as much as Werner Oland.But what struck me in this movie was the end, when it is announced that there will be no war, because Neville Chamberlain will meet with Hitler and Mussolini to work out a peace. How short-lived that optimism was. On the last day of August of 1939, Hitler invaded Poland despite England's attempts to negotiate yet another peace, and World War II began.This may not be a great movie, but it is a snapshot of a last moment of optimism before the war began.

A dreary, boring film from the usually entertaining Charlie Chan series. Harold Huber dominates the film and Charlie merely stands around most of the time. It might have been different if Huber was funny, but he just comes across as annoying. Huber's character and Chan do not mesh well either. The film really misses #1 or #2 son. The plot isn't well spelled out and is not that interesting nor are the characters involved. There was potential here with the backdrop of WWII, but it does not get developed. The worst Chan film ever follows what many consider the best Chan film, Charlie Chan at Treasure Island. In fact, the next three Chan films are all excellent. Puzzling as to why they made this clunker.
