For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Awesome Movie
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Released to 1987, "Hot Pursuit" is a youth misadventure/comedy starring John Cusack as a teen who is unable to go to the Caribbean with his girlfriend (Wendy Gazelle) & her family, but follows shortly thereafter, which leads to a string of misadventures. A youthful Ben Stiller and his dad are on hand as possible shady characters. Shelley Fabares plays the girlfriend's mother while Keith David plays an easy-going island dude. This is a likable teen comedy, but it seems thrown together. For instance, the protagonist's run-in with a trio of black islanders comes out of nowhere and leaves just as awkwardly with no tie-in to the main story. Still, if you like the cast and are in the mood for a teen comedy/island adventure it's worth checking out.For anyone who cares, the "island" sequences were all shot at Ixtapa, Guerrero, on the west coast of Mexico. So it's not even close to the Caribbean, but it's a passable substitute. The movie runs 93 minutes.GRADE: C
Young Danny is following his rich girlfriend's family to the Caribbean. But suddenly he simply must take a chemistry test and cannot go with them. After they have left, he gets a leave from his professor and takes a plane to find them. But he is not quite sure where they are, and meets smugglers, crazy captains and murderers. This is a strange role for Ben Stiller. That is all I have to say about that. This is so far removed from everything else he has done, it does not even look like the same person.Of all the 1980s John Cusack films, this may be the least best. I hesitate to say "worst" because it is not necessarily bad. A bad Cusack film is still better than many other things you could watch. But it is rather blah, and it does not help that the love interest is completely unlikable.
From John Cusack's earlier days, this film is a cute one that slipped through the cracks. It features a shaggy-haired John from his earlier, hapless romantic teen phase. Ben Stiller, as ever, plays a jerk. It's not a must-see, but a good one to pass the time with and just have a laugh at the strange things Cusack has to do in this movie--aside from getting wet and topless...High points of the movie: watching him get stoned with a bunch of island natives, get drunk in an island bar and shanghaied into service on a boat, and then arrested and thrown into a local jail. The crazy pirate, played by Robert Loggia was excellent comedy relief as well.
An action/comedy where he (John Cusack, in his best role) to begin plays a looser boyfriend but becomes the hero in the end! At first he does too bad in school so he cant come with his lovely girlfriend and her family on vacation. However, his teacher is not an "hardass" and so he comes chasing after them. Naturally he misses the plane they´re on and so he gets on another one. This is where the story really takes off, he gets involved with some of the natives who try to help him, but they also seem to bee in trouble with the law! So does he, and after a little detour he gets hijacked, saved (not from the hijacker) and has to fight off a terrorist! When he finally finds his girlfriend and family, well thats when you find out what he´s really made of!Action - comedy - suspense - in a lovely surrounding, what more to ask from a film! And honestly guys, wouldn't you say that this is something you could dream would happen to you?
