Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

Ebola syndrome or should i say the reimagined version of The Untold Story(1993) is yet again another infamous CAT III horror movie from hong kong staring the legendary Anthony Chau-Sang Wong in this nasty over the top but pure black comedy movie.Much like his older role this time he played as a man that for me is probably the most scumbag and garbage of a human to be put on movie i ever see but that is one of the charm of this movie.Seriously i laughing my ass off every time he get on the scene delivery many stupid and great line like in one scene after killing 3 people in the first 10 minutes he get caught by a guy and say: I am killing them, is that a problem? or when he runs through the streets of Hong Kong in the brightest daylight and screams: EBOLA EBOLAAAAAAAAA.The movie also packed with extreme gory stuff like dismembered body parts, too many animal cruelty and actual imagines of people infected with ebola definitely not for weak stomach.Althouh it not have a shocking classic scene like the family massacre like The Untold Story but the last chase scene between Anthony character and the cop is thrilling and creepy in it own right.

The first half of this movie is inarguably the best, or at least the most memorable. This first half has little to no plot, it just moves from one disgusting, depraved set piece to the next. The opening scene sets the tone best, it immediately tips you of that the movie isn't going to be on the Disney channel anytime soon. The most delightful scene in the movie comes later though, when our beloved protagonist Kai starts railing a piece of beef. Which some guy then eats of course, that speaks for itself. After the actual plot kicks in, the movie somehow gets less interesting. Kai tries to infect a whole bunch of people with Ebola by spitting at them, but after we've seen him grind people that almost feels like he's losing his touch. In fact, the second half of this movie is downright boring by comparison. In general it's a really effective shocker though, recommended to anyone who enjoys pointless carnage.

If you want a horror movie that has everything, this is it. Gore, graphic nudity, sick comedy-everything a horror film should have. It takes a loser who would be played by Seth Rogan if it was an American film, and turns him into one of the most outrageously horrifying villains in horror film history. One of the fine points of The Ebola Syndrome is that it manages these shifts in tone-from a mostly comic (if repulsive) first half to a down right nihilistic ending-with aplomb. Somehow, they make it all fit together, in a stew only a Category III Hong Kong film can bring you.If you thought Friday the 13th was scary, stay away. However, if your taste runs to gonzo horror, this is your movie, bar none.

I saw this film because I, in a special kind of way, enjoy disgusting ,outrageous, deplorable films. This film is all of these things, and is really only good for a laugh, an uneasy disturbed laugh. I just feel like this film was a bit too over the top, which I understand is the point, but I felt so dumb after watching it. I wasn't looking for redeemable qualities. The reason I think I watch these films is to satisfy a kind of morbid curiosity. It's like wanting to watch the aftermath of a car accident, that rubbernecking sh*t. I'm curious, but I also feel sorta ashamed. About feeling dumb-the low level of intelligence this film requires to behold it, is at the level of my shoe. This film is low-class. I have viewed a limited number of these Asian(extreme?) films, and do not consider myself an expert of this kind of genre. I understand that this film sort of defines its genre. The first half of this film is full of violence, gore, nasty sex and rape, peeing. I feel that the rape scene (with the boss's wife) could've been written and directed by a horny little teenager. I get it, I get it-it's supposed to be so outrageous that it's funny. It just seems filthy, and a shame that money, effort and time was put into the making of this film. I didn't find myself laughing because of how stupid it was. I wasn't appalled, either. I just felt kinda sad that the film wasn't what I though it would be. The second half of the film slows down, and w/o its gore and violence, it really is nothing. I will say that I enjoyed some of the dialogue, and appreciated it for what it was meant to be: trashiness. Seeing Wong terrorize the streets of HK at the end, howling, "EEEBBBOOOLLLLAAAAA, EBBBOLLAAAAA!!!!," was comical to me.
