After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

I saw this movie when I was 10 and I really found it funny. If you are a kid then you would love it but if you are an adult maybe not so much. But in all fairness, I like this movie I have seen it like 10 times as a kid. Even though the one thing I am not really a fan of is Garfield and Erleen/Eileen (sorry if I am getting the name wrong) relationship.

A lot of people hate this CG series but personally i love it, the second is the best no doubt about it, but many people hate it for their own reason but i love it so i feel i should put out my reasons for it.I'll say the first one was pretty weak because it was the first in the series, the pacing was slow, and the characters were floaty like a children's cgi morning show, but it had a lot of redeeming features. Garfield and co were practically meta-fictional, characters self aware of their place as meta-fictional characters and using a pretty creative way to emphasize this, they went to work in the morning and took pictures of themselves and decolourised it and added captions to make it a more authentic newspaper strip. Garfield and co worked with other newspaper characters, obscure yet recognizable public domain characters almost inter-textually and finally Garfield felt old and tired because he felt he was doing the same old jokes over and over again. Basically acknowledging criticism a lot of people have about the strips from time to time, and eventually he goes into the real world with Odie ala Wizard of OZ and with the help of three friends comes back to the real world, cleaver but not a perfect art but i didn't expect it for a first attempt straight to DVD movie. This one Fun Fest was surprisingly good, using the laid out plot structure of the first movie, a heavy handed morale Garfield has to learn by the end of the film, Garfield cares more about being funny and neglects his gf, he feels like he's lost his comedic powers and goes on a road trip with Odie to a legendary place up in the clouds where he gets this magic water from an old master to get powerful comedic powers, does this remind u anyone, why yes its Goku from Dragonball!!!! But it even goes as far to explain the psychology of successful and failing comedians, finally the story ends with the best engaging well stage pov shot all finale with one of the best tango scenes i have ever seen, let alone straight to DVD. It was gud it was really gud, really good. I think more people should watch this, just the end scene. The third one Pet Force came out and it was OK, It started off pretty well, funny surprisingly, pacing was faster like the second and a lot of gags running through, but halfway through the movie it fell kinda flat, they ran out of ideas I think, it needed a subplot and didn't focus the morale as hard (this time not engaging with life) to strengthen the narrative engagement, they were just fighting and blah blah more gags (tho funny) it needed a subplot or something, otherwise it should have been a 30-40 min episode, but u can see the directorial styles improving per episode.Either way u look at it I say second one is the best, so for fans with affinities for cats that have a tendency to self narrate, watch it.

Sorry my grammar, this is my first comment here in IMDb. I believe that I do not make here a spoiler but by the way I check the "Contains spoiler" options. I apologize if I make a mistake. Some cartoons must not migrate from 2D to 3D. This is one of them. Also now when John can understand what Garfield and friends talk, some of the magic is lost in my opinion. I don't remember that Garfield move his lips to talk. Now he do it. The 3D environment isn't bad, if you see it just a graphic designer view, but if you see like a fan or simple viewer, is totally different. I don't know what but something is lost with this new environment. The story isn't bat too, have greats ideas and moment. The classic Garfield humor isn't lost too, but I repeat again, also the new 3D environment, the lips movement and the ability of humans to hear, understand and talking with Garfield and friends must change the original magic of the cartoon, in my opinion of course. The most important issue here was the 3D environment i guess. The story is good really, behind the scenes (of course everybody talks and understand others) but, I insist (sorry for that) part, big part of the magic is the 2D animation. Do you think that The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy and others would be successful in 3D?. I don't think so. I know that all cartoons, even in 2D are making with computers but is not too "obviously" like 3D, even Futurama. I have the same opinion that adb-36, this is a stone in the road for Garfield. Even the movie with real actors be more than this one. Well, that's all I have to said about this movie. Please sorry my grammar. Regards from Lima, Perú

I must say I am a fan of Garfield comics. I also enjoyed the Garfield and Friends Saturday morning cartoon..... This movie has none of the charm. Here's the problem. Garfields sarcastic, snide comments and attitude are not fitting for a children's movie. The dialog and environments don't match at all. In one minute of video, they have bubble blowing cars and brightly colored scenery while Garfield tells his friend that he "sucks".... I don't teach my kids to talk that way at the age that this movie is marketed towards. What were they thinking? The new imagining of Garfield stinks, every movie has bombed and so is this stinking pile of mean and unfunny dialog, with tacky scenery and character design. Just 90 minutes of humiliation towards the characters.Skip this movie...... And please, don't let your young kids watch either...Zero laughs....Horrid.....Only one good point... the CG is clean (but isn't anything amazing). I'm trying to retain a balanced review.
