Emilio, a shy, not too brilliant pupil at a humble local secondary school, has always harboured a secret love for Natalia, the cutest, brightest girl in the class. On the last day of the school year, when he finally decides to declare his love, Natalia is awarded a scholarship to study Medicine at Oxford. It would seem that all is lost for Emilio, but his drop-out school-pals are not ready to throw in the towel. Sadly Over-hyped
I wanted to but couldn't!
If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
Ugh... this might not even be worth a review but since I saw this at the recent Italian Film Fest in Hollywood, here goes: This Italian production, mostly shot in England and Spain, is really not worth your time. A dumb collegiate plot in the vein of the "coming of age" US school romantic comedies form the 70's and 80's, this relies way too heavily on all the usual stereotypes which fall flat pretty quickly, including a poor and predictable ending. Who would watch this? No sense in going into details even - you know a movie is bad when the end title device of outtakes reveals funnier stuff than the entire film...a rating of '3' for that.
In Spain, the eighteen year-old Emilio (Mario Casas) has been in love for Natalia (Amaia Salamanca) since he was five; however, he has a series of physical problems and is too shy to declare his love for Natalia. His best friends are the outcast José Manuel Flash Sanchez Expósito a.k.a. Flash, who is blind but acts like a normal teenager; Wheels (Gorka Lasaosa), who is paraplegic and sexist; Goat (Canco Rodríguez), who is a hacker and drug dealer; and Corneto (Pablo Penedo), who is a womanizer. When Emilio is ready to tell Natalia that he loves her, she is informed that she has been accepted with scholarship in Medicine in the Oxford University. Goat uses his hacker abilities to falsify documentation and scholarships in the Medicine course in Oxford for the five friends. When Emilio meets Natalia, his friends decide to help him to get closer to Natalia; however, for each plan that they plot to get Emilio closer to Natalia, the result is always a great disaster."Fuga de Cerebros" is a brainless and corny comedy that follows the style of "American Pie"; therefore it is the type 'love or hate' film. The pattern is always politically incorrect with scatological and sex jokes, funny and surrealistic situations and definitely a movie that will never be indicated for an Oscar. The "good guys" are flawed, otherwise it would not be funny; and the "girl" is sexy and very beautiful. The result made me laugh a lot and I really liked it. My vote is six. Title (Brazil): "A Garota dos Sonhos" ("The Girl of the Dreams")
I can't say that the movie is truly good, but it's really funny. It's the most typical Spanish humor: pretty vulgar, sex, drugs, and what you could call "underprivileged people": people with disabilities, young people that fail in school, gypsies, prostitutes.. It's true that what happens in this movie has been seen already; everything is stereotypical and plus the movie ends well. The actors in this movie are all known to the Spanish public, they can be seen on TV 24/7 on shows, ads etc. Even though i thought it was going to be really bad i went to see it, and i laughed a lot. I think it's a movie for younger people to enjoy, it's not a movie that requires you to think or to debate and there is no point in trying to find a point to it. The situations are completely unreal and the characters are unreal but you laugh a lot, it makes you feel better. I say: watch and enjoy!
SPOILERSSSS there's no words to explain the awfulness of this movie, but I will try...This is a movie where a bunch of Spanish prototypes went to a posh place to demonstrate that we are stupid, obsessed with sex and we cannot behave in public, but in the end doesn't matter cause id you are disabled or blind a girl will feel in love with you...natural charming? where's the script? If you found a relation between sequence and sequence just tell me...why on earth Antena 3 put Mario Casas, with his weird faces, to star a movie full of close ups of him looking at the floor...Is so long, TWO HOURS, for the genre and so boring...Is a total rip off of American pie, Road trip... but without the funny parts...I wish I get my 2 hors of life back, I'm not a movie hater, but this is beyond hating... this is a War!! Avoid contact, tell your friend and family, tell everyone....And the worst is that Spanish culture Ministry financed this...
