All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

SEAL Team VI (a.k.a. Navy SEAL Team) follows the titular Special Forces soldiers in the hostile environment of the Persian Gulf in 1991, as Operation Desert Shield gives way to Operation Desert Storm. Their dangerous reconnaissance mission, confirming targets for air strikes against the Iraqi troops and tanks who have overwhelmingly invaded Kuwait, comes hard on the heels of a catastrophe for the SEALS in Serbia. Whilst facing personal demons, the weight of expectation from the coalition forces to successfully begin the liberation of Kuwait bears down heavily on the team. This is an ambitious story for an independent movie to take on, especially one that has such an insufficient budget to work with. The plot demands copious amounts of footage of bombers, aircraft carriers and jet fighters. However, the minuscule budget does not extend anywhere near to portraying all of that convincingly. Instead, we get frame after frame of stock footage being relentlessly edited into the film. This gives proceedings a jarring feel and it's especially the case when the characters are supposedly viewing scenes of devastation. Ultimately, you end up knowing full well that much of the scene has been culled from a newsreel. In fact, the stock footage appears so frequently throughout, that you sometimes wonder if you're watching a real movie or simply a clever editing job. There are also notable cutbacks in the costume department, as the Iraqi forces portrayed in the film don't appear to be wearing any kind of military uniform. They actually look more like ragtag members of the PLO, rather than Saddam's feared war machine. This is a shame as the few scenes that don't feature any kind of stock footage are competently handled. The acting is earnest if unspectacular, the camera work is steady, the editing is sharp and the limited locations are used reasonably well. Positively, the battle scenes are decently filmed and are not without some excitement. The budget just simply can't extend to writer and director Mark C. Andrews' colossal ambition. Some of this could have been tolerated more however, if it wasn't for a monumentally misjudged and frankly nausea inducing last ten minutes. The final act is so full of pomposity and cornball sentimentality, that it would test the patience of even the most forgiving of critics. It really drags the film down further, looking tacked on and out of place when compared with the lean, dark and unforgiving mood of the movie as a whole, stock footage and all.SEAL Team VI has met with a hugely negative reception since it's release. The movie is actually not without a little merit and isn't nearly as bad as some reviews have made it out to be. On the whole however, it's an overly ambitious project that falls regrettably short in meeting it's objectives.

I'm embarrassed that this film was allowed to use the DEVGRU official name thereby misleading future viewers that this thing actually remotely resembled a movie about SEALs. Since when would an Army major feel the need to inform a team member of the importance of their anonymity? The teams don't perform HALOs with gas masks out of a Chinook, they don't 'earn their "stripes" daily, and SEALs say "Hooyah" not the Army equivalent "Hoorah". Navy Flight uniforms? Give me a break! This isn't Top Gun. And in the teams, it's an art and an honor to maintain your kit. You don't just last minute grab a bunch of weapons on a table in an empty hangar out in the open and chunk them in a duffel. Weapons are like a great lover. Your life will literally depend on the nurturing you give those weapons. And if you're going to attempt to make a movie about ANYTHING relative to the military....get the phonetic alphabet correct!! H is Hotel NOT Hippo and B is Bravo NOT Birddog! I had to stop after the first 23 minutes. I cannot wait to ask my friends in the TEAMS if they've heard of this travesty. They've probably never even wasted their time making fun of this. I'm just infuriated about the entire nightmare and would hate for anyone else to waste a second of their precious life!!! I'm a chick and the incomprehensibly inaccurate items in this piece of junk are so cliché and just plain WRONG I would be embarrassed to put my name on this or show my face in the film industry if I had anything to do with this movie. No wonder nobody ever heard of it before! Pretty sure the last time a member of DEVGRU was clean shaved was during BUDs. And NOBODY switches back & forth from Master Chief to Chief. A modicum of plausibility would be nice. Thank God I didn't spend any money on this!!

Much can be said about this movie. One gentlemen from England really ripped this movie. I'd like to know if he's served as has Prince William and Prince Harry. If he's served has he served in the SAS Britains version of Special Operations. In this country we have Seal Team Six, Army Rangers, Delta Force, Green Berets or Special Forces, the 82nd Air Borne, and Marine Recon. So when someone criticizes this elements they better have their facts straight. With regards to the specifics of this movie most seal teams are comprised of 12 individuals and are led by a Leutenant not a Master Chief Petty Officer. Each seal team member can usually perform more than one task; that is his own and the one above him and the below him in case one goes down. I'm sure budget constraints prevented a full team from being fielded. Also, why Admiral Timmons was a Vice Admiral (3 stars) and not a full Admiral (4 stars) was a mystery to me. However the movie was very enjoyable. I recommend it for all even though like many war movies the language is rough.

I was surprised that the 10 reviews that existed before mine were ALL negative.I watched the movie before I read the reviews. In my opinion, this was a pretty good movie. This movie made me proud, patriotic, thankful, and sorry I could not serve myself! Yes, the acting was not superb. And yes, they probably did things that Navy Seals would never do. I guess technically some of the events that were based on true events did not necessarily happen to Seals. My bottom line is that this was a good movie and it is worth watching. I'm not sure if it is worth paying full price for a DVD or blu-ray, but it is certainly worth watching.
