Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.

Two unhappy young lovers are separated by a zombie apocalypse, and to reunite they must find strengths they never knew they had. Will they, won't they?Cynical satire layered over a crystal clear story, with great rhythm in the writing and editing. This comes in 3 episodes (alternative format 5) but apart from the recaps at the start can be watched as an unbroken whole like a full length feature of 140 mins. Too long, you say? Nah - they get it right. It's a mix of Dawn Of The Dead, using the satire of the original and the energy of the remake, with the matured version of UK Big Brother, using Endomol's privileges to get the most into the production. Davina gives a performance that will define her forever. The plotting and pace is good. Characterization good too - although the tone of the extreme characters is sometimes annoying rather than grotesque. I'm thinking of the conflicts between the tranny and the northern bloke, and the scene where the producer slices up the corpse. But the lovers are well played and ... lovable. Acting never awkward.Overall: My favourite zombiedom after Dawn Of The Dead 2003.

Almost all of the characters in "Dead Set" are the cast and crew of Britain's "Big Brother," who soon find themselves trying to survive an ever increasing number of ravenous undead. As usual, they pose almost as great a threat to themselves as the zombies do. The living made me recoil in disgust more than the zombie guts and gore. With just 2 or 3 exceptions, the cast of characters are a real miserable bunch of cretins. So, I was rooting for the zombies within minutes. For that reason, a big part of the suspense was, which one of these creeps will get slaughtered next and how deliciously gruesome will their demise be?Although I've never willingly watched an entire episode of Big Brother (I truly hate all that "reality" drivel), I understood the premise...the social commentary in this film. I would love it if the zombies who watch that trash would turn against the real life reality show miscreants. That would be an episode I'd pop some corn for.So, the characters are compelling mostly by being irritating, with a few exceptions. In addition, the story, which is just another variation on the usual zombie fare, is well written, including the dialogue, which is believable throughout. There's a bit of dark humor here and there and several unexpected character based twists. The director and production team did a fine job; the TV actors are very good; and the zombie make up and gore are excellent. Most of all, the drama is compelling and the plentiful action is exciting. And the ending was just plain crazy!I'm a zombie genre lover and have watched the undisputed greats as well as lots of low budget garbage, hoping for some level of entertainment. I've been rewarded, I've been disappointed and I've gotten angry. So, as zombie movies go, this is one of the best limited budget offerings I've seen. I'm giving it 8 stars out of 10 partially for it's few flaws, buy also because many of the characters were just so unpleasant to watch.Nonetheless, worth another watch, I'd say.

Wow! "Dead Set" is one of the better zombie entertainment installments I have seen in awhile. I bought the DVD from Amazon and I am really glad that I did. I had no idea what it was about, just that it was something with zombies, so of course I had to own it. I had put off watching it for awhile, a big mistake on my account. The story in "Dead Set" is about an outbreak of zombies on a global scale. We follow the people inside a 'Big Brother' house, as they are shielded from the outside world and have no idea that the entire world outside is dying, literally, and coming back from the dead. But soon enough, the zombies come crashing through the gates...I found that "Dead Set" was a lovely mixture of both types of zombie genres; the Romero zombies and the "28 Days Later" zombies. And it actually worked out quite well. Personally I am not a fan of agile, running zombies, but it was quite fitting in "Dead Set".The characters in "Dead Set" were believable and realistic, and I loved the way they portrayed the people in today's society that are blinded by the media and lusting for their 15 minutes of shame in the eye of the public. It was really a great touch to the series that they portrayed some of the people like that, as it is as true to the reality of reality show competitors as it gets. Yeah, you guessed it, I have no love for reality shows, nor for the people participating in them."Dead Set" is driven by the great combo of the action, storyline, gore and the characters. The characters were really so greatly detailed and fleshed out, that you got a lot of chance to delve yourself into their situations and grow with them. I liked that about "Dead Set", because the characters (and the actors/actresses portraying them) were really helping along the series so well. The zombies in "Dead Set" were great, nice details, nice gore, great aggression. However, and this is a personal preference of mine, but I didn't care much for them running around all agile and quick, that is not in my taste. And also the eyes, well it was a good enough attempt, but it would have worked better with some contact lenses that milked over the eyes, instead of making them have eyes like Marilyn Manson."Dead Set" is good entertainment and lots of fun. I enjoyed it from the very start up to the very end. It is a great addition to any zombie aficionado's DVD collection. If you enjoy zombie movies, then you definitely have to check out "Dead Set". And it is well worth checking out if you are a fan of the "28 Days Later" series or any of the Romero zombie movies - or both!

This show is awesomely brilliant! It can be watched as a typical zombie horror flick due to actors' deadpan delivery and directing style, but the more you pay attention to the dialogue the more of a comedy it becomes. The script by Charlie Brooker is witty and full of biting cynical social commentary. It's also a much better entry into the zombie genre than anything since the original REC. I could be wrong about this next point, but I believe Joplin to be Brooker's doppleganger. Plus if you watch Charlie Brooker's screenwipe you can see some of the characters Brooker parodies in this show. Three out of two thumbs up!
