This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

American Girl dolls were a huge staple of my childhood; I collected seven historical dolls and still keep them on display in my room. I have drawers of outfits and accessories, and virtually my entire closet is full of furniture pieces for them. Cookbooks, games, and novels—and now, in the modern era, there are lots of movies to go along with the historical collection! In An American Girl Holiday, Samantha moves in with her grandmother and meets Nellie. If you know about the dolls, you know Samantha is the Victorian doll, whose story takes place at the turn of the century, and Nellie is her impoverished friend. AnneSophia Robb, in her debut film, gives a great performance as Samantha. She's a real doll come to life! Mia Farrow plays her grandmother, and it's easy to imagine her popping right out of the books' illustrations. Of all the American Girl movies, this one is my favorite. Felicity's film is a close second, but this one gives me an extra fuzzy feeling inside because it takes place during Christmas. Dig your dolls out from the attic—or take them down from display in your room—and watch this Christmas American Girl delight!

I loved this movie! I collected the American Girls Dolls as a child and have read most the books. Samantha was my favorite. The movie followed the books pretty well. Of course, some was left out, but thats normal. It was fantastic. Samantha's character was portrayed well. Her determination to save Nellie was very admirable. Grandmary was done very well. The movie was a good length for a children's movie. The tale was very moving. Seeing Samantha grow and learn was done so well. The viewer felt involved in the story. The childhood connection made the movie greater. The cast was perfect. The chemistry really helped it seem like they were a real family that truly cared and loved each other. I highly recommend this movie.

I think it was a good movie, but it wasn't your average Sound of Music type thing. It wasn't that exciting, but was enjoyable. I wasn't an American Girl fan when I watched this so American girl fans must have enjoyed it more than I did. American girl fans have a different point of view, so I guess they were the ones who mostly enjoyed this movie. American girl fans see everything related to American girl as a big thing, but people who aren't that interested in American girl just think of stuff related to American girl as something that happens, well... very often. That is exactly why this movie would be enjoyed mostly by American girl fans.

This film was delightful from the start to its somewhat predictable conclusion. A touching story was well presented in this beautifully made movie with surprisingly good performances from all the actors, even the young stars. It will be a holiday classic to be enjoyed for years to come with our entire family. The girls who play Samantha and Nellie are perfectly casted in these parts, and deliver terrific poerformances that lend to the realism of the story. Young and old alike will enjoy this movie, which surprised me by being as good as it was. Although the movie was sponsored by American Girl (who sell a line of dolls from the movie), it was easy to totally forget this while watching it. Hats off to all the sponsors, actors, and producers - for knocking this beautiful move "out of the park"! It just couldn't have been done any better and delivered a joyful and beautiful holiday message that can be applied every day - don't be afraid to stand up and keep trying for what is right, and eventually things will work out well. What a delight!
