Pretty Good
Let's be realistic.
Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Could never understand why the name was selected a Madras Cafe. The end of the movie could have been anticipated well in advance. Expressionless acting from John & Rashi. John has no emotions, not sure why he was selected for the role. Story line for the movie is weak , no wonder why the film was a flop in the box office. Nargis Fakhri had no major role in the movie. Cinematography is quite strong. I expected a lot from Shoojit Sarkar but in the end it was a serious let down. I feel I just wasted 2 hrs of my time which could be have utilized to watch something else. Also wonder why the movie have 7.9 ratings on IMDb.
Hats off to Indian cinema for making such a film! Madras Cafe goes down to the raw truth of the Sri Lankan civil war and shows that India can make real films with real story linesMadras Cafe is a John Abraham film throughout! He dominates and takes his role to new heights. John's found his niche with roles like Force and now Madras Cafe. Nargis is pleasant in her role (perhaps as she did not have to speak Hindi), and isn't annoying like she was in Rockstar. All supporting actors do their job perfectly well. One big problem with Madras Cafe is that if you're not political clued up, or necessarily find it interesting then you might lose interest in this film quite early. However, just like I did please go and watch until the end, especially for the climax scene as it is truly fantastic and teaches the younger generation like myself history about our great country India!
A very good movie especially for john Abrahim. I like the movie all the way, only the end was not extraordinary but for sure the movie was a must watch. I would like to specially thank Mr. Shoojit Sircar for choosing John for this role, as he is the perfect guy in the bollywood for this type of roles. Thanks again for giving us such a nice story. This movie definitely drives us to a different way that we generally don't have in other bollywood movies. It is not having even a single piece of comedy and not also any romantic scenes, just a thriller but for sure it can compete to any army based movie or a political thriller ever made. Best Thing: very very strong story line and John of course.Worst Thing: Nothing worse at all, a little disappointment was at the end not being something special.
Political, tense, finally explosive, MADRAS CAFE is no picnic in the neighborhood park. Madras Cafe's true star is its story which builds up to an agonizing end. It brings to life the Lankan war which many viewers were too young to have known. It highlights India's ambiguous role, moving sensitively, taking no sides. Its second half grows more fraught and taut, conspiracies and compulsions becoming clearer. Madras Cafe deserves an extra half-star for guts, going for the gunpowder - but with a restrained hand. Wonderful film delivered by Shoojit Sircar and John Abraham after 'Vicky Donor'! Note: If you like typical Hindi movie masala, unrealistic action or melodrama, this movie is not for you.
