This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
That was an excellent one.
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.
A student get a night job to prove his girlfriend that he doesn't have to barrow money from his parents to make it on his own. So he decide to study at day and work and night. He get a night job at a morgue. All he have to do is sit by the phone and check the dead bodies once every night. No big deal. But strange things start to happen. One night one of the bodies is suddenly missing. He discovers the dead body somewhere else in the morgue and call the doctor that works there to show him that the dead body has been moved. The doctor calls the police before he shows up himself, but when the student is about to show them where he found the dead body, it's not there. The body has been moved back to place in the meantime and the doctor and the police does not believe the student. This is one of the best scary movies I have seen in a long time. It's impressive, atmosphere is brilliant and it will keep you at the edge o your seat the whole time. You'll get scared. Trust me.
Ole Bornedal has succeeded in directing an excellent genre movie, and coming from Denmark, it shows another example of the Europeans showing the Americans how to get it done!! Nattevagten or Nightwatch tells of a couple of friends, Martin and Jens who are always up for each others challenges. The challenges are usually based around getting the other's girlfriend mad, but when Martin gets a job as a nightwatchmen at the local morgue, they tend to get a bit more devious. Jens gets involved with a hooker, and to make himself feel better, lures his pal into involvement as well. All the while a brutal serial killer is going around scalping hookers, and the hooker they've became involved with is next on the list! When Martin becomes the prime suspect in the killings after a number of shady events under his watch at the morgue, people begin to talk. But things are't what they seem, he's being set up! By whom? Well you'll have to watch it to see...Bornedal shines at creating the most tense moments! Many times throughout the film i was on the edge of my seat, and on many occasions i got quite riled up and excited, and that doesn't usually happen with me! I feel many films in this genre have been quite lacking recently, but this one kept me entertained throughout and i felt the ending was exceptional as well! If you look closely it has inspired a few other recent films: of course the americanized version of the same film, and saw. Wasn't very gory for those gore fans out there...but it's a great thriller, one of the better ones i've seen. I give it a 9 out of 10 and a recommendation.
This is a great horror movie and what makes it even better is that it is Dansih. You seldom see good movies coming out of Scandinavia, but Denmark has proven that they can make good movies. This movie has great acting performances, especially by Kim Bodnia. A really creepy horror movie!
'Nightwatch' is genuinely creepy Danish thriller full of suspense and interesting uncliched characters. Writer/director Ole Bornedal really knows how to hook a viewer by creating a likeable hero, then throwing him in the deep end. We really feel for Martin (Nikolaj Coster-Wadeu) and want to somehow see him get out of the dangerous mess he unexpectedly finds himself in! This movie has plenty of twists without getting gimmicky, and is helped enormously by the first rate cast of unknown (to an English language audience) actors, all of whom are well cast and convincing. One of the oddest things about this movie is that the American remake was not only inferior, but actually directed by Bornedal himself. American remakes of European movies are almost always poor, but this is one of the few examples of the same director being responsible for both. (One other springs to mind - George Sluizer's brilliant 'Spoorloos', remade by himself as the hugely disappointing 'The Vanishing'). Maybe this says a lot about Hollywood and the behind the scenes compromises movie audiences are rarely privy to. Anyway, steer clear of the crappy remake, and try to see this the superb original. Along with Amenabar's similarly taut and claustrophobic 'Tesis' it is one of the most effective and entertaining thrillers of the last decade.
