The first must-see film of the year.
The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
I was lucky enough to find a DVD copy in my local second hand store yesterday. Yay!!The story is offbeat and quirky. The cast is great, especially Meredith Eaton. She steals every scene she's in and what a beautiful lady she is too.Kathy Bates is one of the best actresses around. She's down to earth and believable. And what a nice surprise, the lady can sing very well.Rupert Everett is so good at comedy. But, he can play anything. I've liked Jonathan Pryce for years. It's nice to have something that I can listen to his singing. I have searched the internet, but I can't find where he has released and album unfortunately. It's just a gem that I can watch over and over and never get tired of.
I think if I gave a summary of the film people may not watch it !! A middle aged woman goes to her favourite singer's funeral and the sets out to find his killer .However , with a cast including the remarkable Kathy Bates , Rupert Everett , Richard Briars , Dan Ackroyd and Jonathan Pryce , it's a must-see . Kathy Bates acts with her face and has the viewer crying for her , laughing with her and cheering her on . The show is stolen, though by the beautiful and remarkable actress Meredith Eaton who plays Kathy Bates daughter in law .Masterclass !!! The essence of this film is that we can watch it over and over and still laugh and this film not only succeeds there but I see something else in it every time I watch it .Enjoy !!!!
This movie is the most moving and funny movie I've seen in a very long time. As a housewife ( "homemaker") and a fan ( Rupert) I found it to be sympathetic . Anyone who misinterprets Dirk's angry outburst has it wrong. Kathy Bates is not really an actress I know but she is perfect , the whole cast is perfect for their roles. Julie Andrews had me in stitches .I am watching it after reading Rupert's auto-biography so the inclusion of her was even more fun. It is at times terribly moving .I am not really a fan of the type of music in the film but you get drawn in to the romance and find you are singing the songs for days .This movie deserves to be more widely available .Our favourite scene involves Dirk and a gun and his trousers , watch it and see !
I am a huge Rupert Everett fan. I adore Kathy Bates so when I saw it available I decided to check it out. The synopsis didn't really tell you much. In parts it was silly , touching and in others some parts were down right hysterical.Any person that is a huge fan of a personality of any type will find some small identifying traits with the main character. (Of course there are many they won't, but that is the point)If you like any of the actors give it a watch but don't look for any thing too dramatic it's good fun.I might also mention you can see how darn tall Rupert is. I mean I knew he was 6'4" but he seems even more in this film. He even seemed to stoop a bit due to the other characters height in this. He is tall! I mean tall!!!! And for you Rupert fans there is a bare chest scene...WONDERFUL!
