I love this movie so much
Such a frustrating disappointment
Good movie but grossly overrated
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
This 1989 horror film features a mysterious killer lurking about in a Michigan supermarket where he dismembers the night crew one by one. Is it someone who works in the store or someone else? This isn't a bad late 80's slasher flick with plenty of gore and a bit of slapstick humor. Sam Raimi (Director of The Evil Dead & Spider-Man Trilogy), Ted Raimi (Evil Dead II), Dan Hicks (Darkman) and Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead Trilogy, Maniac Cop) make appearances and there's great, gruesome make-up effects by Greg Nicotero, Howard Berger & Robert Kurtzman as usual. If you're a fan of horror/slasher flicks, this may be up your alley.
Jennifer Ross has to deal with embittered ex-boyfriend, Craig Peterson, who won't leave her alone at a supermarket. If that's not enough, Jennifer and the rest of the employees find out they are being fired at the end of the month, due to the store being soled While Jennifer and the rest of the crew finish their duties for the night, a maniac is killing them off one by one. Is it Craig or somebody else? How the hell does this only have a 6.2 rating? I realize how low-budget and amateurish it is, but this is an excellent slasher that is impossible not to enjoy. As a matter of fact, this movie is a slasher fan's wet dream. It's filled with genuine suspense, thrills, boo scares, a chilling score, scares, and well timed-humor. It takes advantage with its low-budget by being ingenious and creative. I've always found a store to be a very creepy place to set a horror movie. At night, it's rather isolated and quiet. This movie takes full advantage of this and runs wild with it. I was extremely impressed by the stalk scenes. With so many disappointing horror movies coming out these days, it felt good to feel suspense when it comes to stalking. It was all carefully orchestrated and the viewer is better for it. These guys know what to do when it comes to giving the viewer tension. It conceals the killer's face, making the viewer question who the killer is. There were times I was sure I knew who the killer was, others I was in the dark. It kept me on my toes, which is rare for a slasher. The gore is explicit in this one, and the red sauce is laid on thick. We get a face sawed in half, a knife through the head, and a plethora of bloody stabbings. We also get a pick through an eye, fun with a hook, a head being squished, and lots more. I can't state this enough. Make sure you get the uncut version! The performances benefit from having a charmingly amateurish quality. Elizabeth Cox puts other gorgeous women to shame with her beauty. She has genuine talent, putting her all into it. Her acting chops were not too shabby either. I adored her. She could have easily been a great scream queen. Dan Hicks is a hoot! He seemed to be having a blast with the role. His wonderfully OTT performance was a treat to watch. He had some terrific lines as well. Sam Raimi is actually pretty decent, while the rest of the cast are adequate. I'm not gonna spoil it, but wait until you see the ending. It was so adroitly done that I was tempted to clap. Final Thoughts: This is criminally underrated in every way. People need to get with the program and give this movie the credit it deserves. It's one of my favorite slasher movies of all time. Obviously everyone won't feel the same, but I don't see how any true horror fan could dislike this movie8.5/10
If you're expecting anything out of this movie beforehand, don't. Don't watch it for Bruce Campbell (he's hardly in it at all), or because you think it might be something like Evil Dead, or because you think it might be another typical 80's slasher. Intruder exceeds all expectations.Aside from a plot with an unforeseen twist, there are some really great, original camera angles, lots of gore, quirky, weird characters, and hilarious moments that will leave you laughing for days. You'll love the purposely terrible acting, the great one-liners (Don't you see?! I'm just craaaazy about this store!), and the fact that someone gets beat up with a severed head! This movie is definitely recommended to anyone who loves corny 80's slasher movies with a lot of dark humor. You can't go wrong with it.
As of this writing I've finally managed to bag myself the unrated director's cut of Scott Speigel seriously classy directorial debut Intruder(aka Night Crew) this release comes courtesy of Charles Band's Wizard Entertainment label, Prior to Intruder, Scott Spiegel name for me was only ever recognisable from his screen credit for co-writing my all time favourite Evil Dead movie, Part 2 - Dead By Dawn. With Intruder, Speigel created a very groovy suspenseful little thriller.Essaying his soon to be recognised trademarks goofy camera angles(the camera in the shopping trolley) and writing some really good dialogue, Spiegel created for me personally a seriously cool little slasher classic. All the actors excel, especially Dan Hicks(watch the movie to discover why) although the trailer I watched gave too much away with regards to the actual outcome of the movie, heck even the back of the Wizard release even shows the killer's identity, that being said, this movie hits all the right notes, such a transgression is oh so minor. Then again I've watched this movie so many times down through the years, just to watch the movie build crank up the tension is always a joy to behold, and yes it's always nice to see the KNB effects team special effects fully uncut in this movie.Although not really a horror movie, but after two decades this movie still lingers in the memory for all the right reasons.A resounding 10/10
