I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.
This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
MILITIA is a low-grade action thriller from B-movie director Jim Wynorski; it's a film best remembered for extensively ripping off footage from the 'Cyberdene' set-piece from TERMINATOR 2 early on in the proceedings. The rest is a hostage/siege/ATF agents vs. redneck loony slice of entertainment with lots of action and explosions and little in the way of wit. Dean Cain, coming fresh from TV's Superman, is particularly wooden here, while Frederic Forrest and Jennifer Beals give far better performances than required.
The Nike-Hercules missile site used to try to launch the anthrax missiles is an actual former Army (NORAD) air defense site. I served at two of these sites (which actually surrounded all the major US cities at one time). The movie site is an accurate restoration of how they worked. I was a Target Tracking Radar operator, and worked inside of what was basically a semi trailer except it was crammed with electronics and radar screens, all illuminated with red lighting. Our missiles were launched from above ground, after being elevated from underground bays.Information out these sites is scarce, hence my desire to pick up a copy.BTW, the comments by the Colonel that other (third world) nations are still using Hercs for surface to air defense is probably true.
Terminator 2 is my favorite movie, I even bought the movie on DVD. So when I saw Militia and the stolen scenes well...I have never laughed so much. How can they steal scenes from a famous movie!? Jim Wynorski gotta be stupid. The story is awful, the acting is bad and the effects are bad. Why recommend this movie? Simply because you are gonna laugh a lot. Militia is the king of the b-movies! The movie is about a patriotic militia group who wants to kill the American president with anthrax. But who cares?Dean Cain acting is horrible and the funny part is that he can see what people are writing on the computer by watching the keyboard when people writes. Superman can probably do that but a normal person? Well this is Militia and in that movie everything is possible.
Yes, I am a Dean Cain fan. However, unlike the others that posted before me, I HATED, despised, and won't recommend this movie. Heck, I wouldn't recommend this to someone I hated! I must confess Dean's hair gel was the major player in this movie. Never mind, the ridiculous Rush Limbaugh-like DJ played by Stacey Keach. I respected Mr. Keach more when he co-starred in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech & Chong. Office Stedanko (sp?) was a hell of a lot more believable than Stacey's Militia character.Oh yes, let's not forget Dean and his glorious Hair Gel, for a minute I was going to burn my "Dean Iz Hot" card. He wore the same hairstyle throughout the whole picture. Again, he sure looked purty.
