I love this movie so much
So much average
Great Film overall
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
This is another one of *those* movies, you know the kind. The kind that starts out pretty decent (5.5 scraping the barrel territory, but still) and then out of nowhere gets into some forced religious message about someone finding God. (looking at you Cokeville Miracle)Stay away! Stay far away!PS Its not just that there is a religious message here. I've enjoyed several films with religious/spiritual themes before (Book of Eli) but its just so ridiculously hamfisted, shoe-horned and badly written here.PPS the films marketing deserves a special note, it doesn't make it clear at all that there is a religious message here. It seems like its deliberately set up to bring "unbeliefers" to the fold.
Having used IMDb for 4 years, I just created my account here in order to review this movie.I put this movie on for my wife who is very much interested in surfing. I won't waste my time going into much detail about it; the first 80 minutes were not too disappointing, taking us around the world to beautiful locations and with a fair amount of surfing. But then it starts: the final 10-minute non-stop in-your-face attempt at religious conversion. The producers apparently thought it clever to lure unsuspecting viewers 80 minutes into the movie, make them expect a satisfying / love story ending... and then hit them with their real message once they had invested this time. The whole train of the movie is derailed as it veers 90 degrees off course and the viewer is left asking what in the heck just happened. Is Christianity so desperate for donors that it needs to employ these pathetic tactics?
I read most of the reviews on The Perfect Wave ! I really thought the actors did a very decent job portraying their parts ! I'm a big fan of surfing movies ! I've surfed most of my life ! The places they surfed are some of the best in the world ! There seemed to be just the right amount of romance in this story ! It wasn't over the top surfing ! And that really fit in with the story ! It was written from a perspective that surprised me . And I don't think it should or even needed to be in the movie ! Religion has a place, but it definitely shouldn't have been in this film ! The movie was good enough to make me like it until he almost died ! At that point I almost turned it off ! It is worth watching though, but if the ridiculous Religion part was left out I would have scored it higher !
Surfing tour following the true story of 24 year old New Zealander, Ian McCormack, via some of the best spots in the Southern Hemisphere in search of the perfect wave and then finding a wave of a different kind. Full marks for excellent cinematography, editing and music. The movie awakens all your senses. Superb footage of NZ, Australia, Bali/Indo, South Africa and Mauritius. Inspires me to travel more. As a non-surfer, it inspires me to surf too. What epic waves and rides. The storyline is gripping and life-changing. Acting was up there too. Main actor is the son of Clint Eastwood. Carried his role very well. I always enjoy movies based on true events. And the main message is thought provoking.
