The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
I can't wait for this to be available in Australia, I loved Alex's previous film In Search of a Midnight Kiss and this is an even more personal story. Thank you both for sharing your story with us, albeit a more fictionalized version of your partnership! It's not an American in Paris this time, it's an American experiencing Berlin and Eastern Europe and showing it back to us in a realistic way. Getting Rupert Friend just as he was breaking in to the US, on the back of Homeland, is a stroke of luck, and one that speaks to the talent of everyone involved. Please, please Australian distributors, make this available to us here!
Great cinematography, wonderful setting. A very well written love story. I do believe that it has been underrated in its reviews. Grab a glass of wine, a snack and spend an evening watching it. You won't be disappointed. The plot is well developed and the story itself well arched. I found the female lead to be convincing without over doing the drama. The musical score could have been better but the story alone makes up for the superficial aspects. This movie was a labor of love unlike some of the large commercial productions. It's a rare treat when a work like this makes it to the big screen. It's a movie with its own bragging rights.it is a wonderful date movie. A unique piece of cinema. I found it intriguing enough to watch twice. Humble and lovely.
I felt this movie had stunning visuals which is not surprising because the visuals were shot first, and then a movie, loosely based on the main characters' real life, was written later. The dialog was mediocre and clichéd, e.g., when the main character, Anderson, is jumping off a cliff he exclaims that he have never felt so alive. Another example is when Anderson's friend or agent asks him "if he got laid". The editing was instrumental in defining the mood of a scene, for example, when they were in a club the quick cuts showed the energy of the scene. The plot was somewhat predictable for the main couple but I was not sure what would happen with the secondary characters of Steve and Friederike. Alex Holdridge's acting leaves something to be desired...but he was the writer/director/editor and felt it easiest to tell his story himself.
Montenegro. Meet me there. The film MEET ME IN MONTENEGRO grabs attention. Having spent summer days in Europe's hidden treasure, Montenegro, the location for a celluloid celebration of romance is aptly cast. The sheer beauty and contrast of this country has attracted film makers to use it as a shooting location for many years. It's great to see relatively unknown countries highlighted, and featured on film. For those who haven't been there (yet), get ready to be transported there. For those of us who have enjoyed Montenegro, this film aims to bring it to life on the screen. Bravo! Viva Europa! The realism of films like this are a welcome contrast to car chases, explosions and special FX.
