This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

Basic breakd0wn 0f Unicorn City: A tablet0p gaming nerd wh0 has tr0uble separating his fantasy w0rld from real life, applies t0 a j0b. The manager at a gaming c0mpany listens t0 him talk ab0ut h0w he runs a guild.. blah blah blah... and ign0res him explaining that 50 0ther pe0ple said the same thing. If he wants t0 get hired, he needs t0 d0 s0mething more 0riginal. He is given 1 week t0 pr0ve himself.Thus- Unic0orn City. He creates a gaming ut0pia city where his guildites and him can live (0n Private Property) in peace. He enlists his friend t0 help him d0cument his "success". But cha0s starts t0 ensue when his gaming nemesis finds his "secret" l0cati0n and tries t0 claim it f0r himself.The m0vie can be s0mewhat sl0w at times, but it has a l0t 0f laughs in it. You d0n't have t0 be a gamer t0 laugh at hum0r and j0kes. A l0t 0f laughs, h0wever, c0me fr0m acti0ns m0re than w0rds. S0, y0u really have t0 be watching the m0vie t0 get the full hum0r of it all. The characters are pretty realistic. A l0t 0f gamers have different pers0nalities, they're n0t 0nly 0ne type like p0rtrayed in s0me media. You d0 have nerds. But, then, you have the "g0th/punk" girl, the "wh0rish" girl, the d0uche bag guy, the f0reign guy, the main character wh0 is kind 0f nerdy but n0rmal, t00. And all the in-between pe0ple. That's what I liked a l0t was that there was variety in characters. The m0vie kind 0f reminds me 0f the sh0w "The Guild". S0, if y0u're a big fan 0f that, y0u'll like this m0vie a l0t.

Building a Utopian society for gamers where they play their characters in real life…classic! This was a quirky movie, and given the storyline and characters it was exactly what you would have expected. The pacing was good and kept the laughs coming. It should be a gamers cult classic. Not being a gamer myself I think some of the humor went over my head, but it was still fun. I have no idea what psyonics are. I would totally let my kids watch this movie and they would probably love it. I cringed with delight as I watched the romance of the main characters. I loved the Centaur especially and at the end when he fell over I cried I was laughing so hard. Spoiler alert, I think Vos should have taken the job.

This is a fun movie that lets you laugh along with a group of people that prefer their fantasy game lives to their real lives. The story is about Voss, a twenty something gamer that is trying to get a job working for the biggest company in the table top gaming industry. To prove that he has leadership skills and can lead an augmented reality game design team, he packs his friends out to the woods to take part in a full immersion fantasy gaming event.The plot progresses through some standard drama building points, namely, the antagonist comes to ruin Voss's plans while Voss's best friend tries to use the event as a means to progress their friendship into a relationship. This movie stands out, however, in its use of the social awkwardness of adults lost in their own fantasy as the main vehicle to advance this common plot through a script full of laughs. For example, how would adults that see themselves as sword wielding adventurers and clever bards approach conflict resolution? While the plot focuses on gamer culture, it is not exclusive against those that are unfamiliar with table top role playing games. In the group we were in, my wife laughed the hardest and she has absolutely no role playing experience. Due to the tight copyright protection of the actual games, there are no jokes that require a knowledge of specific rules or games. The comedy comes from looking at the culture itself.The major point that draws my overall score for this movie down is that the main character is not that likable. Napoleon Dynamite had a main character that was socially awkward, but likable. He said weird things and acted funny, but he was trying to be nice and was willing to help others. The audience wanted him to succeed besides himself. Voss, on the other hand, is hot headed and self centered. He only steps up for others when it is in his own self interest. It's hard to feel bad for him when he is the one that --spoiler-- both emotionally and physically hurts his friends.--end spoiler--Overall, the movie is fun and good for some laughs, just don't expect to get overly attached to the main character.

Are you living in a world filed with the same old recycled politically correct Hollywood garbage? Do you love great movies but just cant find anything you haven't seen before? Want to see a movie that will be one of the best movies you have seen in years. Not some remake about monkeys or the same old crap told over and over? Then you should go see Unicorn City! I seen this film by my self the first time. Later that same day i took 2 of my friends back to see it. I have since taken 9 more friends back to see this film on different occasions. One trip was a 5 hour drive with 6 guys in a Nissan Stanza. It was worth every minute of that drive. Trust me your going to love it!
