You won't be disappointed!
To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Blistering performances.
I wish I could take credit for that "original" summary line, but "unfortunately" someone else came up with it. And renamed this movie in the wake of "50 shades of Grey"! Name changes of movies are nothing out of the ordinary in Germany, which make people believe they are about to see a new movie or something that reminds them of something else (both in this case).Unfortunately the movie does not live up to any standards, has aged badly and you can't stop but wonder how and why Stanley Tucci got involved ... Well I guess there are worse things than working with K. Wuhrer of course, but still. The opening scene alone which reminded me a lot of people "acting" (I mean obvious acting as in: we are in a play or filming a scene - a movie within a movie kind of thing to boil it down), falls flat on its belly. The OTT (especially from the other male lead) is beyond ridiculous and unfortunately not even played for laughs, but very serious, which doesn't work at all.Not sure if I watched the unrated version, but there was nudity and even if there is or was more of that, it wouldn't have helped the movie either.
An unusual piece of film work that was better conceived than executed. The narrative storyline belies and ambiguous framework that penetrates the interplay of marriage and subliminal sexual longings. Kari Wuhrur is outstanding and gorgeous in the character of the wife with the heart of gold -- driven by love, lust and the need to compensate for (or complete) her husband's distorted sense of priorities. Don't take the overt story to narrowly and a host of deeper purposes present themselves.
Engaging movie with a stage feel (most of the movie takes place in two rooms) and and eccentric sense of humor - each of the characters is flawed but I empathized with them. Jessica ends up having to make a decision and having to deal with Bill's jealousy.
If it weren't for Kari and her body, this terribly slow and IQ sapping character drama would have been a complete waste of time. However, as crude as this may sound if you can see the unrated version, it sure beats watching re-runs of Mama's Family.
