Great Film overall
Loved the movie start to finish! Great casting and direction by Brandon Slagle and Devanny Pinn gives a thrilling performance. Along with Britt Griffith's creepiness, Alexis Iacono's dark, sorrowful and sinister portrayal of the Black Dahlia, Noah Dahl's sensitive yet captivating presence, Cleve Hall's menacing demeanor, and Jessica Cameron's quick but touching cameo as Norma Jean, opens new doors as to what really happened to Elizabeth Short so many years ago. With some really cool twists and turns, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Brandon Slagle and the crew have coming next! Buy it, rent it but whatever you do, watch this film!
I had the privilege of viewing The Black Dahlia Haunting at the Stanley Event this weekend. This movie was not at all what I expected. It was so much better. The story telling kept you guessing as to what exactly was going on until it tied up all the loose ends at the end. The actors/actresses were great! Alexis Iacono captured that old Hollywood glamour as The Black Dahlia, while Devanny Pinn was great as the girl the caught up in something she had no idea about until the it was over. Ghost Hunters Britt Griffith was just plain creepy as Dr. Owen's and not someone I would ever want to meet in real life. I have met Britt so this was a very nice surprise and great show of his ability to play a creepy person in his first role and I look forward to seeing what he will be doing in his next. If you are looking for a good paranormal horror movie, THIS IS IT!!! I know I will be watching out for future Brandon Slagle projects.
First and foremost, if you have the opportunity to see this film, do so! I had the pleasure of seeing a screening of the film in Sacramento, CA and I think I've told everyone I have seen about it. I'm not a fan of most horror, mainly because it's all pretty much been done before. I like blood, just not senseless blood and guts. I like the supernatural, if it's done right. With that being said, I really enjoyed this film. It brought both of these elements together in a perfect blend, blood and the supernatural. If you are going in expecting the same old crime drama/horror movie, think again. It was fresh, dark and had some bloody scenes, but nothing too gory. However, this film is probably not for the squeamish. It is great to see such a change from the remakes that are out there now. I also dislike when I go into a suspenseful movie that is full of "twists", but you know how it's going to end in the first five minutes. That is not the case with The Black Dahlia Haunting, it kept me guessing all the way to the end. Devanny Pinn had a challenging roll, but she was able to make you feel for her character. As another reviewer wrote, "Britt Griffith made my skin crawl", and that he did. The cast and director, Brandon Slagle gave depth and life to the characters. I look forward to their next project!
I had a chance to see the film last weekend in Sacramento, they screened it for fans at Days of Terror. I love a good unsolved mystery so I am familiar with the Black Dahlia case from previous books and movies. This take is a refreshing change on the usual, the addition of the supernatural spins this from a crime drama into a horror film perfectly and I was riveted to my seat the whole time. They did go graphic in some scenes, this is not for the squeamish, but it all fits in with the story and really gives a strong fictional alternative to the other stories I have read/seen about the case. Certainly this beats out many 'based on a true story' films that barely give passing glances at the real life material, here they have managed to blend it in well so that with just a bit of suspension of disbelief you can see this as a possible explanation. Very well done and a great film for horror fans looking for something new again!
