Faberge: A Life of Its Own

This feature-doc tells the epic story of the Faberge name, from Imperial Russia until the present-day, spanning one hundred and fifty years of turbulent history, romance, artistic development and commercial exploitation. From the bejewel led Easter eggs of the Romanov Tsarinas to the 1970s allure of 'Brut by Faberge' aftershave, and from the Russian revolution to today's high-fashion glitz in New York and London, the film explores a multi-faceted world that began with one man: the prodigiously talented Peter Carl Faberge, Court Jeweler of St Petersburg. Shot at locations across Russia, Europe and USA (including the collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II), the film features interview contributions from the world's foremost Faberge authorities, as well as personal reminiscences from Faberge family members.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

Fantastic doc, huge research done by a very talented teamA must see for anybody interested in Faberge and the creative process. Also a very interesting historical doc on Russian history combining information on the Russian revolution on one hand and the history of Faberge on the other hand. At times it made for uncomfortable viewing as you saw the lives of the Romanov family in stark contrast to the lives of average Russsian The Faberge craftsmanship was and is exceptional which was very well highlighted by thoughtful interviews and lovely close ups of the Faberge object d'art. It was also fascinating to see how the 'new' Faberge was trying to keep the flame alive with I think great success I highly recommend this doc.

Faberge: "A Life Of Its Own" is an exceptional film, documenting the history of Faberge. It is captivating, highly informative and beautifully filmed. It is a documentary literally in "A Class Of Its Own". I highly recommend it. It has clearly been thoroughly researched. It incorporates the origins of Faberge from pre Russian Revolution right up to the present day. There are fascinating interviews with Faberge's descendants and numerous owners of treasured Faberge objects d'art. It takes one through step by step the intricate process of how these exquisite pieces are designed and made giving the viewer a fascinating and intimate insight into the world of inspired ideas and skill which ultimately lead to the birth of a masterpiece.
