It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
I stumbled upon this film on-line and literally fell in love with aviation almost as strongly as I fell in love with my wife. I have always been a fan of aviation but, this extraordinary film captures the emotions of flight unlike anyone has been able to convey before. The cinematography on the ground and especially in the air is outstanding, the editing is top notch and the score is on par with any of Hollywood's best. Bravo! I plan to watch this film over and over again.Congratulation Brian, generations will take to the skies because of your passion and outstanding skill displayed in this wonderful film.
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley back in the 60's and was drawn to Van Nuys Airport like a magnet. I hung out at Skyways, the Cessna dealer, on Roscoe. I roamed the entire perimeter of the field searching for fascinating aircraft. I watched plane after plane land. For me Van Nuys offered a freedom of spirit. I always wanted to become a pilot but poor eyesight in the sixth grade put an end to that dream. But my father was in the airline business and I had the fortunate opportunity to travel the globe in scores of great planes. When I came upon "One Six Right" it took me back to my days of flight dreams. Up in the clouds. Captain of my own airship. I even went through start up procedures for a DC-3 in my bed late at night. I read everything I could find about planes and flying. I have yet to find a visual presentation that even comes close to reaching my inner soul of flight. "One Six Right" struck it like a harpoon. Hats off to Mr. T and his crew for a stupendous narrative that flows forth on so many levels. "One Six Right" should be on the must view list of every film student on the planet. And the music. Mr. Wang has been up in the clouds of heaven before. It is a "Dead On" theme that starts the tears welling in your eyes. They are true tears of joy, remembrance and hope that someday everyone can join the treasured few up above "One Six Right".
Brian,I just wanted to let you know that I watched your video and words cannot describe the way it made me feel. I cried through most of the video. The footage, the interviews, the P-51, Bob Hoover, the Pitts...................., I could go on and on. You are a master at presentation. I hope you can continue to make this large contribution to General Aviation. I will end with this, the emotions I felt watching your video compare to my ride in a P-51(Slender Tender Tall) in January of 2006...................Sincerely, Mark
I just watched this film in HD at home today. There is NO better way to watch this film. The opening sequence showing the juxtaposition of historical vs current footage actually brought tears to my eyes. One Six Right brought the same emotions to me as when I flew myself to the Wright Brothers Memorial in North Carolina. The beauty and passion so many people feel about aviation is perfectly exemplified throughout the film. More than a documentary, 16 Right tells the story of general aviation in America today. There are protagonists (Van Nuys Airport), antagonists (Mayor Daley and his wife), and tragic heroes (Meigs Field in Chicago). All of that, and one thing I didn't notice right away... in a community where jargon is the modus operandi, I never heard ANY jargon. If you have never flown an airplane, visited an airport, or even watched AIRPLANE! you can still enjoy this film. 10 out of 10 for story, color, sound, and lots and lots of airplanes.
