An Exercise In Nonsense
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
After watching this film, I legitimately wished by bed would devour me. Everybody in this film is so idiotic, it makes The Room look like a masterpiece. However, this film has definitely convinced me to stop entering abandoned mansions in my area (an activity that I engage in weekly)
" I am not really sure, what to say about this! With title like that, I thought it would be funny horror, it wasn't at all, it had serious toneIt was very strange, most of movie was very silent. There were just handful of scenes, Peolpe spoke, they were very short.Which I thought was good idea as when they dd speak, it felt forced and makes the bad acting more noticeable. This movie also had flashback of black and white.I think they were just to waste time, to fill the short run time. One think for sure, this is original. "Very strange movie!
Writer / director George Barry's "Death Bed: The Bed That Eats" is one of the strangest films you'll ever encounter. At first, it would seem that it could only generate laughter due to its outrageous premise, but it's quite possible to take it seriously, as a surreal work of art with touches of exploitation (namely, gore and nudity) thrown in.The title pretty much lays it out for you: the title item of furniture has been possessed by a demon for many years, and claimed many victims, pulling them down into its yellow, frothy, hungry innards. One of the victims is an artist (Dave Marsh, voice-over by Patrick Spence- Thomas) whose spirit is now trapped behind one of his paintings and can't do a thing to warn anybody who stops by.This film has got a real unearthly vibe and a European sensibility going for it. It creates its own universe, and occupies it to great effect. The viewer may keep watching out of a sense of sheer fascination. Granted, its acting is all on the amateurish side, but the low low budget does work in its favour, as such an element often does for such B pictures. None of the human characters are terribly interesting, certainly not as interesting as the bed itself, which does have a presence. There are some very memorable moments, such as the extended sequence where Diane (Demene Hall) starts to get sucked into the bed, manages to emerge (albeit with legs now bloodied up and useless), and starts to crawl to freedom, only for...Well, I know it's best to let you discover it for yourself. When a young man (William Russ) loses both hands to the ravenous bed, he's oddly not too distraught but more amazed at the damage done."Death Bed: The Bed That Eats" is definitely the kind of thing you have to see for yourself. It HAS developed a following, if not a particularly large one, and that's not hard to understand. It's a true original.Eight out of 10.
From its title you already pretty much know this just isn't going to be a good movie but you would at least expect it to be fun to watch. I mean here you have a movie called "Death Bed: The Bed That Eats" about a bed that kills people but the movie just simple falls short on every department. It's really a bed movie, that was putting me to sleep with its annoying, slow narrator and the fact that there is far too little happening. Well, actually it's not like there isn't anything happening but it's more that the movie just simply doesn't know what to do with it. Scenes go on for far too long and it's lacking in its build up as well. No, I really can't see how this movie can appeal to the fans of horror, even to those who are more accustomed to seeing bad movies. There are just no redeeming qualities about this movie, not even some decent gore. The movie has such a bad story, that just drags on and on. The entire movie is set at mostly one location but it does far too little with this premise. It actually rather works against than for the movie. It also really doesn't help that all of the characters are incredibly lacking. Who's bright idea was it to make the female lead a mute? Really, you just don't ever care about any of the characters or anything that is happening in this movie.Watch the original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" instead for a truly good death bed moment.3/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
