Hilary's father is instantly charmed by Louisa, while she herself finds a strong connection to middle son Kadin, ignoring her dubious instincts. Better than most people think
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
This is an amazing little horror movie, highly recommended to all the genre fans. For the budget this low, it has turned out great. It is about a quiet town which is overturned by the arrival of a family whose intentions are not clear. I loved it because of its mystery elements, which are backed up by a great story and believable acting. The main character is played by the charismatic Connie Saltzman (for whom I've honestly never heard before), and she did her role fantastically. I wish there are more good movies with her and I will definitely look out for more work from this director.
This is for sure a B horror movie so don't expect a lot of crazy special effects or anything. I actually appreciated that because I'm so distracted by them when they aren't done right. It looked like in this movie the brothers were actually fighting and that being said, the fight scenes were very well done and didn't drag out too long either. It had a kind of rawness to it. However someone of it was really campy like the the cliché of a small town and a boring high school. Yeah yeah yeah we get it, it's a small town. The math teacher who is a punk rocker in real life was actually a nice wink. The acting overall was pretty good and the film LOOKS really nice. It doesn't look like a horror movie it looks like a sweet romance. The story was unique and I did not guess the ending so for me, that means it's good. But I have a lot of issues with not having all the answers and again, the cliché of the small town. How OLD is Louisa actually? Are the twins actually the oldest brothers? Is Hilary now like Louisa in the end and will have to live that way? A very fun film though, I give it 6 out of 10.
So yes I have many questions after just now finishing this and its the first time I watched a movie I can't just go to Wikipedia and read the full synopsis to see what I am missing so if you're reading this miss director please make a wikipedia page for people like me! So there's a lot to just fall in love with because this movie looks like a fancy indie music video with lots of colors and warmths and everyone like the whole cast literally glows beautifully golden while the "normal" folks are darker haired. Very very good art department and I really loved the chemistry between the son and Hilary (so hot!) I thought at times the girl playing Hilary seemed young and at other times it was like she seemed 30, but in the film she's more like the parent to her dad than him to her. She takes care of him a lot and that really connected with me on a personal note and I think it will with others too. There were so many layers to this. But I have questions and I really really really want answers so I am taking 2 points away as Hilary said to her bestie via FaceTime "Sorryyyy"
I had a friend who worked on the crew and I just watched this and let me tell you, as a fan of horror/comedy I had thoroughly enjoyed it. I was never bored, I don't think I got up once from watching it on my laptop which says something. I loved how it looked! I was like wow, I'm from upstate NY and this movie makes it look the most beautiful place in the world. Yet it there were dark undertones there the whole time since you know... it doesn't end well! So spoiler alert, the brothers are a LOT older than they claim to be, especially the twins who are actually the oldest and shown in an old newspaper clipping. They're basically like drones taking care of their mother, the "Queen Bee" and feeding cute girls to her so she can stay ageless. I'm never sure if she would die without feeding or if she is choosing to feed? Anyway, it was awesome and I thought completely obvious. I want to see what this Writer would do if they had a big budget!
