it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

This is one of those terrible movies that is really good for the guys at RiffTrax to skewer. In my opinion there is still a lot of mileage to be gotten out of "teens in the woods encounter evil possessed killer" plots. But this thing is just such a mess! Other people have blamed the actors, the costumer, the director, the scriptwriter. I'll take a new approach and blame the editor. I see an outside possibility that the script was coherent, but that the editor rendered it into an incoherent mess. The truth is, after watching the riffed version five times, I still don't quite understand what was going on in the movie. The "rules" of fantasy and horror don't need to make real-world sense, but these rules have to be explained clearly, and then stuck to, and make internal sense. The filmmakers failed at all this. There is a lot to laugh at here. The wolf attack that did not include a wolf, the terrible acting of the "novelist," the assumption that college students play a lot of hide and seek and truth or dare still, the non- Indian, and everyone mispronouncing the word "wolf."Poor Corey Haim. Being molested as a kid actor by producers, his drug addiction, and this movie. There must be a special place in the afterlife for someone who suffered that much.

I think I'd rather have a fever, in lieu of watching this again. Not only does it move as slow as molasses, but barely anything happens until the final 15-20 minutes (!) We get a decent opening, which reminded me a bit of The Shining, a relatively bloodless dog attack, and plenty of uninteresting dialog, but that's about it. There are way too many scenes with the characters meandering aimlessly. This movie is heavy on the supernatural mumbo-jumbo. I can't begin to tell you how irritated I would get at the white Indian character, Clear Springs (Michael Wise) He pops up conveniently whenever there is trouble, but he's there to warn people. He also gives one of the worst performances I've ever seen in my life. He gives these stoic facial expressions, and looks like he's reading his lines off a cue card. It's also extremely cheap with a shot on video like feel. The director tries to be fancy at times, which I will give him credit for, considering the low budget, but he forgets to add thrills and suspense. With all of the supernatural stuff going on, there sure isn't anything scary. We get some laughable looking, green, glowing eyes on people, whenever they are possessed. There isn't much gore to speak of, either. We get a bloodless dog attack, and a woman melting at the end, along with blood splashes. Corey Haim isn't terrible, but he looks uninterested at times in the material. He was going through major drug problems at this juncture, and I assume this was for a much needed paycheck. He does have a great moment in the ending, but that's about it. If you look closely enough, it's not hard to figure out his shy character. I like Corey Haim a lot, but it wasn't all that great of a performance. Mario Lopez is embarrassingly bad. His character hardly does anything. Mario resorts to cheap mugging, and flashing that cheesy grin of his, basically many things that worked extremely well in Saved by The Bell. This isn't A.C Slater bro. Try branching out a bit. Bo Hopkins is actually very good as the sheriff, but this movie is beneath him, and doesn't deserve his talents. I'll give it two compliments. It has some excellent cinematography, and the twist ending, while predictable, was actually fairly well done. By the time it came my interest was LONG gone. Final Thoughts: I watched this for Corey Haim. He was a gifted talent, and it's a shame about his addictions. This movie doesn't deserve him, nor does it deserve your time. R.I.P Corey, you deserved better. DUD

Possible spoilers aheadThis movie starts as a third rate slasher flick. A few typical dumb teenagers that are so obnoxious that you can't wait for them to die go off to Fever Lake for the weekend. A lake huh? That's something new. That night the Evil roams through the house, like a slllooowwww version of the Evil in the woods from the Evil Dead movies. I guess that's because this particular Evil comes from the lake, rather than the woods. (insert your fish out of water joke here) It also attacks a local waitress by smearing tiny drops of blood on her face. After slowly chasing her trough the woods of course. Only this time it manifests itself as a wolf, or dog (?), that is sometimes invisible and sometimes not. Or something. Finally, it turns out this is actually a teen slasher Shining. With a weird 'quiet' type of guy and a strange smart girl as Jack Nicholson. A nice girl, a slut, a jock, and a horny prankster for false scares as Jack's wife and son. And an Indian played by a white man that seems to be unable to move his facial muscles as the cook.

When Fever Lake came out on video, my family and I rented it, because it was filmed in my home town. The town my father grew up in, and family still lives there. Twin Lakes, Wisconsin is such a small place it's not even a town, it is a village. So we all thought it would be cool, and we recognized a lot of places. "Fever Lake" is actually called "Lake Mary". You might think the movie would be good with Corey Haim and Mario Lopez who played "Slater" on "Saved By The Bell". This movie wasn't bad but it lacked something , and it wasn't the actors. Anyone who has seen the actors portraying other roles know that they can act. All in all, it was cool to see my home town in a movie(I still live 20 minutes away from it). One of the good parts(which it has a few) was the twist ending, sort of like "The Twilight Zone". If you feel like you've seen everything there is rent this movie, when you're in the mood for different cheesy horror movie. I'm not calling it a good or bad flick, because that is for everybody to decide with their own opinions. That's all I gotta say 'bout that. Peace. I'm out.
