Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
Underground is a grade-C war movie starring Robert Goulet as an ace spy who hijacks a mission and parachutes into France during World War II in order to settle a vendetta. It recycles just about every cliché known in the war movie genre, and suffers from bad lighting to boot.First of all, Robert Goulet is just not the war hero type. Had this been a film about a spy who parachutes into France and adopts a cover as a cabaret singer, it might have worked. It certainly would've been a better movie than what we get. The rest of the cast is downright laugh inducing, second rate actors playing stock roles. To make things worst, the lighting is truly terrible. Much of the film takes place at night, and it is often impossible to see what is going on. I haven't seen lighting this bad since The Green Berets. Even Birdemic did it better! Worst of all, the story is one you've seen thousands of times before, with characters and situations done in better films. You'll be laughing when you hear Goulet's back story-it's that trite!
