I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

"Osama" is a feminist movie focusing on where feminism is truly needed: the Middle East. This was the first film made in Afghanistan after the falling of the infamous terrorist group, the Taliban, and it focuses on this very subject matter. It is a realistic, tearjerking piece of political cinema that exposes the harsh realities of extremist groups such as the Taliban, who ruin the lives of many, especially women. The film's plot is about a kind, little girl who is forced to be in disguise as a boy so she can work and gain money for her family. From here, a simplistic and tragic story begins. This is a moving, relentlessly gloomy depiction of humanity at its absolute worst, and it really is a very important and smashingly powerful film that should be witnessed by all.The only real flaw is that the ending seemed mildly anti climactic. I felt like the film should have ended on a certain shot that felt like a really strong, ending note-but the film then went on for ten more minutes. To avoid spoilers, I will not specify which shot this is, but that's just sort of a nitpick anyway. You should really just see this incredible film!

Much too late this stunning and so moving film came to my attention. I won't go into the obvious story that all other viewers have referred to , BUT I will say please notice all the symbols and signs: the old grandmother telling about boys and girls, man and woman being the same on the inside, the grandmother is also the one cutting off Osama's long hair to make her look like a boy … so that Osama can get a chance to survive, notice how Osama is planting a hair look in a pot and keeps watering it, and notice the old man, the mullah – that Osama later will be forced to marry. This old man is also the teacher in the bathhouse who teach the young boys how to wash and clean their genitals and he teach them of their sexual dreams when they sleep. When Osama inters the bath house the old man says that "he" (Osama) looks like a girl, a nymph, a heavenly spirit. Later on the old man is the one (perhaps the only one) who rescue Osama from being executed when the community and the Taleban have revealed the truth about her not being a boy. The old man brings Osama to his house with his many wives and children. The old man is wealthy and so Osama will be able to look forward to a better life than the poor one she left with her mother and grandmother … or will she? The movie ends with the old man taking a bath so that he can be clean before the wedding night with Osama.Do also notice the boy, Espandi in the beginning with the incense, Espandi is the one who renames her Osama, and he by turns support her and betray her …Question: has Osama been the chosen one (by the Gods)… the special one? This movie is a masterpiece.

image of survive. slices of fight and hope and dark society. a remarkable film for its cruel message. for the acting. for script who presents, in a honest, minimalist manner a contemporary tragedy. Osama is a manifesto for its force to remember not a part from Afgan realities but for the humanist speech about rules and courage, about limits and need to transform its in tools of a new life. touching and powerful, realistic and out of usual stereotypes, a travel, adventure and testimony, it is a special film , fresco of a world who, for many of us, remains only fiction or story for an ambiguous land. more important than artistic value - and this is admirable - is the role of beginning of a new society. the hope who has as mark this movie. Obama is a reflection subject and perfect occasion to understand the sufferance of a country.

Osama is a film made in Afghanistan by Siddiq Barmak. The story was about a girl living in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime that disguises herself as a boy, Osama, to support her family. This all-Afghan feature stars Marina Golbahari,Arif Herati,Zubaida Sahar and Khwaja Nader It was the first film to be shot entirely in Afghanistan since 1996 - the year when the Taliban regime banned the creation of all films. It is the first all-Afghan feature released since the end of the Taliban rule. Osama's story starts in the early days of the regime.A young girl and her widowed mother participate in a demonstration for women's right to work. When the demonstration is broken up by the Taliban, they hide out with local street kid Espandi. When the Taliban take over a hospital where the mother secretly works, they are arrested and jailed. In order to go to work, the mother dresses the young girl as a boy. Forced to attend school, the girl reunites with Espandi, who refers to her as Osama.Osama is both heartwarming and heartbreaking in the sense that it provides the viewer the what Afghan life is all about particularly those of women. It is is bitterly honest about what life in Afgahnistan is all about during the rise and fall of the Talian. It was also deeply disturbing especially with the conditions and predicament that people have to go through.Barmak also proves that he is a talented and creative director. He made a very emotional film whose power cannot be denied.Overall,it is movie that is worth watching especially when it gives us a realistic view about a foreign culture and life in a foreign country.
