... If you like your 'Conjuring' & "Insidious' type movies you'll like this one, not as scary but still plays out well. Not sure the 'based on true events' line is totally accurate, but the film is way above average, has a few 'creepy' moments and some 'make you jump' scenes, with a lot of plot to make this a fast paced great little horror. Some undeserved bad reviews for this from Trolls and non horror film lovers ... and oh surprise !!! this film was NOT made on an iPhone with student actors with a budget of a coffee ... thank goodness!!!! Great acting, great effects, well directed and good production values, give it a go, a lot better than some of the rubbish out there!

This is an interesting chiller about people doing horrible things when they are asleep, or think they are. It does contain a fair few children, however. I mention this because children in horror films tend to fall into two categories: genuinely frightening (The Exorcist, The Ring etc) ... or brattish. 'Slumber' manages to straddle both possibilities, which is something of a first. Stumbling, screaming kids and ghost-like images are fairly well conveyed, never truly annoying and occasionally producing something genuinely sinister. The soundtrack, a dark ambience by Ulas Pakkan must take a lot of credit for the omnipresent atmosphere of not-quite-reality-or-is-it, and the cast are uniformly very good, even when - in the case of Maggie Q as Alice Arnolds and Will Kemp as husband Tom - the characters are not overtly dynamic. It can be, I'm sorry to say, a little dull, very talky. But there are plenty of moments that deliver the goods. The idea of demon feeding off nightmares is a good one, and it plays on a fear of going to sleep, the debilitating misery of resisting slumber and that hollow pang it can cause.Events are enlivened by the appearance of former Doctor Who and Radagast, Sylvester McCoy, who hams up delightfully the typically eccentric Armado. We only catch a glimpse of the lengths Armado has gone to to resist falling asleep, and it is disturbing.

Not many horrors made me feel goose bumps like this one. It gives some awkward feeling as if I am in that movie. Very disturbing stuff in a way that you'll hate it if you watch it late. Everything is great- acting, ambient, lights, sound. Music is exceptionally creepy just in the places where it should be. Film editors did the great montage. A must watch for every horror fan. Superb horror.

What an awful film. There are a few really good well known actors in this film so why was there zero amount spent on special effects or scares is beyond me.Sam Raimi proved that you don't need massive amounts of CGI in the most frightening film I have seen for years in DRAG ME TO HELL - Simple shadow effects, elongated shadows under doors, strange noises, wind and a masterful horror touch that only Sam Raimi can perfect and yet this dire effort couldn't manage anything except that hoary old Exorcist chesnut of beds off floors and "invisible hags" (to save money on special effects after they obviously had shelled out most of the budget in paying the actors) lolThe only reason I give this more than a 1 star is that it stars one of my favourite Scottish actors in Sylvester McCoy who stole the show although not even he could make this passable. This subject of nightmares and ghosts has been utterly done to death (pardon the unintentional pun) in horror movies and probably the best was BOOGEYMAN and DARKNESS FALLS but this effort if you can call it that literally gives zero scares and more laughs of derision than anything else.If you need a soporific to summon sleep then perhaps they should actually have hired this movie to elicit slumber - as for this movie its a complete bummer!
