So much average
Good concept, poorly executed.
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Really enjoyed this movie, saw it at the International Film Festival in New Zealand. Having grown up in Austria, I knew the first fairytale about "Die Trud" and the Bavarian one was also very familiar. The 8 tales moved around the world and were very different, but all beautifully shot. The last, Hungarian one, played like an old silent movie was a bit more farcical but the others held genuine horror and dread.
Cute concept (world folklore anthology); well executed. This was much more subtle than a lot of mainstream horror which I think will subvert some watchers expectations, either positively or negatively.I found the opening short examining the socio-religious stigmas surrounding homosexuality to be artful and insightful with a positive empowering message that wasn't crass or overstated. At least one short examined elder care through the lens of witchcraft. The last short was a delightful dark comedy--Grimm meets Aesop. It was cool to see something new in horror under the guise of being old.
I heard a lot about this from friends, but after seeing it very dissapointed. The whole thing was pretty bad.
Good movie south by southwest, interesting concenpt bringing shorts together. Worked really well
