Very well executed
Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
How the makers of this film were not sued by the copyright holders of Last House on the Left is beyond me. The plot and characters are almost identical to those in the 1972 classic. The fact that this movie credits a story writer seems like a joke. The gore and brutality is quite severe. This is clearly an attempt to make Chaos an "extreme" film along the lines of Salo or Irreversible. However the filmmakers failed to realize that shock without substance or originality is merely a cheep stunt. When a DVD contains a lengthy interview with the producer and director trying to justify why their film has merit and that all the bad reviews are really positive if you read them the right way you know you're in trouble.
This is by far the worst film i have ever seen. For many reasons. I know the film was due to be a remake of last house on the left but then at the last minute was changed because of its own originality...... This is ridiculous. The film is pretty much a carbon copy of the film, although it lacks all of the qualities of both the original and the more recent remake. The tagline. This film is not the goriest film, its not the most disturbing film, its not scary. All it does is it shows prolonged attacks on the two girls, breast fondling and so on and hints at one of them being raped. There is no gore!! Now this film is being marketed as the goriest film ever made. i couldn't believe it. The Ending. Honestly, the last shot of the film is ridiculous, it could be a family guy sketch, the dad stabs the villain, the cop shoots the dad, the mum shoots the cop, the villain grabs the gun and shoots the other cop then the mum..... the villain laughs like a cu*t and the feel ends, i feel as though i have wasted an hour and a half and lose faith in small independent horrors. I honestly am at a wits end as to how this film ever got made. The french are miles ahead of us in their production of solid, classy, terrifying and truly disturbing horror movies, with no need for gimmicky taglines. Please watch Inside, Martyrs, La Horde, Seven Days, Frontiers or Switchblade Romance for something a little less Sh*te.
Teenage girls Emily and Angelica, while looking to score Ecstasy in preparation for attending a rave, are instead lured to a remote spot in the woods where they become the victims of a group led by a man who calls himself Chaos.I stumbled onto this film late last night, and thought "Hello, here we go again - cabin in the woods time." I was looking forward to a routine horror/slasher of the sort we have seen many, many times since Jason Vorhees first raised his masked head. It may even be the case that this is what the filmmakers intended to deliver, and thought they were making (which is speculation on my part, of course). But what is on screen is very different to your standard horror / slasher / cabin in the woods / innocents abroad movie for a number of reasons. One, there is some very strong acting here, particularly from the two girls (Chantal Degroat and Maya Barovich) and Kevin Gage as Chaos. Two, the violence is altogether more believable than the routine gore in this sort of movie. It is easy to believe that the girls have fallen into the clutches of someone who derives immense pleasure from carrying out fairly simple but very disturbing acts on people: there are sequences which are genuinely distressing without necessarily being especially explicit - you are not always shown what is happening, but you know. And, three, there is not a single element of redemption or retribution in the movie. To put it bluntly, the bad guy gets away home free.Yes, I know that this sometimes happens in real life, and I think that may well be one of the reasons why this film leaves me so queasily conflicted at the end - what is, in many ways, a cheap and cheerful formula film actually contains some elements of real quality (acting, realism), but arrives at a morally repugnant conclusion. Is it worthwhile? Possibly. Is it entertaining? That's the question, really. Many of those watching it will have identified it as a genre movie and will be watching it to be entertained. Personally, while I could admire qualities which came out of a low budget movie, I found myself appalled and disturbed rather than entertained.
Only thing I find more disturbing and disgusting than this movie are the people that defend this garbage. This movie was checked out completely by accident, and I surely regret the whole $1 I spent on it. I will even admit I did not finish the movie. Watching plaster dry has more redeeming value. These movies are made for one audience- psychotic future and current serial killers, rapists, and other vile humans. I wish movies, and the audience members who enjoy this crap would all instantly combust in flames and burn for eternity. There is no single shred of argument that can be made for this vile crap.I sincerely beg anyone, with so many good films out there, do not watch this movie. If anything, I would encourage people to boycott this movie, and everyone involved in making of this.
