I love this movie so much
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
I must say I haven't seen this movie for a very long time. Having a very fine souvenir, I decided to watch it again, and what a pleasure. If you like french gangster movies with our Jean Gabin, powerful slang dialogs and 60's design, this one is really for you. Without forgetting George Raft facing Gabin. And Fröbe, Bozzuffi, Ceccaldi, Brasseur, Mireille Darc (so sexy), Nadja Tiller ...And international sequences in Japan, London, Germany.A very special palm to Claudio Brook, very very convincing.Indeed, a powerful french gangster movie. As gentleman Philippe wrote, so few reviewers?
I am amazed that no one has commented this film yet; especially our faithful friend Dumonteil, who has done it for nearly every french film available...Look out for his thousand comments. This movie is a good adaptation of an Auguste Le Breton novel - the author of SICILIAN CLAN, RIFIFI, LES HAUTS MURS, BRIGADE ANTI-GANGS, LE ROUGE EST MIS, RAZZIA SUR LA CHNOUF... Here again, we find Jean Gabin in one of his best characters, the kind he was so fond of, in which he was so amazing, so wonderful. He plays here an old international gang leader specialized in high scale art smuggling, who has to struggle against the mafia from the USA. And, as you can guess, Gabin is a hard boiled hood, faithful to his friends. And the war will be fierce. The evil one, the gangster who has to fight our french lead, is no one else than George Raft; yes Sir, the famous actor of Howard Hawk's SCARFACE. The face to face of these two screen monsters is outstanding. We find here Gerd Froebe and Marcel Bozzuffi. The climax is unforgettable.
