Reviews
It is not deep, but it is fun to watch. It does have a bit more of an edge to it than other similar films.
I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
As a Bettie Page fan i enjoyed this nostalgic burlesque movie featuring; tempest storm with her natural 40+ bust, and Bettie page(pin-up queen of the 1950"s)now on icon, sure there's no plot but this is a burlesque show featuring comedy acts like funny Dave starr(car 54)and sexy strippers like tempest storm and Lilli st cyr.Bettie also introduces each act wearing sexy costumes and holding cards with names on them.she also performs, her dancing however is'nt good but its Bettie page she looks good dancing badly.if your a Bettie page fan this is a must see.the something weird video has all the extras.Bettie also did;varietease in 1954,and striporama in 1953.this is the best showcase for Bettie page,in the credits shes listed as Betty page, its filmed in beautiful color.I'm giving this 10 out of 10,maybe because i love Bettie page.
This film is bad even by 1955's standards. Sexy, it isn't. Even by the lowest rent version of Burlesque, it is a mess. The "Top Banana" has the unfortunate problem of not being funny. Not even with the "take my wife, please" joke. Production values are non-existent. With one exception, the women are...well, you judge for yourself. As for the stripping? You will see more skin on a Cape Cod beach in January than is displayed here. There is nothing wrong with being tacky. But this is just incredibly boring. One dance goes on for seven minutes and is not one-hundredth as sexy as Rita Hayworth's dance in "Gilda".The one glimmer of light in the entire film is 1950's icon Bettie Page. Bettie has two dance numbers. Neither of which are very good. She also introduces each act with it's own title card. It is here that she shines. There is a freshness, a sexy naughty girl-next-door quality that she lends to these all to brief moments. If you are a BIG Bettie Page fan and have a fast forward button then rent this. Otherwise, for your own safety, stay a way from this film at all costs.
Although presumably intended as an erotic burlesque, with comedy interludes, Teaserama actually comes across as an retrospectively amusing attempt at "harmless," ultra-soft porn with very unfunny comedians breaking up the flow. This is the first I've ever seen with a Dress Tease (as opposed to a Strip Tease). Of course the finest moments are provided by Betty Page, with her seemingly random facial expressions and hip jiggling. Possibly the greatest fringe in movie history. Kitsch, camp... call it what you will, it's got more soul than the rubbish most TV stations bill as "erotic" these days.
This is horribly dated piffle. It doesn't have a plot and it's completely tedious. The wonderful Betty Page is wasted in one of the worst movies of all time.
